Would a GtX 780 Bottleneck my q8300

The 780 wouldn't be the bottle neck. It would be your CPU, RAM and maybe your Motherboard as i think it is only PCI version 1.

i know it wouldnt be, im just asking to what extent would i be bottlenecking the Gpu. Say i overclocked the cpu to 3ghz, that should eliminate it to some point surely, yes my motherboard is only pci-e 1

you'd be better off spending the money to upgrade your MoBo and processor first. If you bought a 780 it would be a waste because your MoBo wouldn't use it to its full potential

It would be to quite an extent. Even if you overclock the CPU. Which im not sure would be a good idea putting too many volts through on that motherboard. I think you would be better Investing in a 650/650ti boost and a i3/i5 processor from ivy or sandy bridge.

Unless you get the 780 and then upgrade the rest of your rig soon after.

Hope that helps.

I do intend on upgrading my rig i just want performance now and i think, well know, it would be a massive improvement on my HD 4890 i wouldn't mind the bottleneck if it made me able to enjoy games now maxed im just trying to find out how much of loss i would be getting. in the meantime between me updating the rig.

You would be losing a LOT of performance..... I have tried to explain this to you. There is no point in spending £580 or what ever it is on a GPU when your whole system isn't worth over £80.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything. I'm sorry if it comes accross that way. I'm just trying to explain that there would be little to no improvement over upgrading from your current GPU to the 780.

To an extent i agree with this. Yes you would see an improvement in gaming but you'd be far happier and better off spending that money upgrading the foundations of your system and then getting the card than getting the card first. Just in my opinion. Plus you could prob find a cheap second hand card to tie you over whilst you save for your gpu upgrade

+1 :p
By the way: "I swear to you if I hear that word (bottleneck) again..." - TTL :p

+50 :D
Please listen to what we are saying, save the money upgrade the cpu and mobo and then the gpu, rather than just getting a 780!!

Its like trying to put a V8 engine into a Corsa B, yes there will be a smidge improvment, BUT there is no point as it wont work very well, or in fact at all.

You would be buying a £550 graphics card but be getting the performance of a £150 graphics card. That in mind, you might as well buy a £125 graphics card Gigabyte WindForce 650ti OC and spend the other £425 on the rest of a new build :D

So yeah +1 on a new build ^_^
