World of Warcraft receives its pre-expansion update

I've played wow through 3 years of college, ended up quitting when I had to make the choice to work and earn a living or play wow, looking back on it probably made good choice but damn I loved that game, hc raiding, pvp, 25/40 people in a single group to take down a boss is just a unique experience, competing for rank1's at your class during progression.

I want to go back now... but I know its dead at this point:/

here is the EU population data

Raiding is now scaled between how many players are in the raid 10-30 these days I used to love 25 man raiding my best experiences as a badass mage :)

I was addicted to this for many years, loved vanilla 40 man in bwl and nax but would never go back to a game that stole my life

holy crap those stats are depressing, no wonder blizz stopped publishing stats on that. Used to play on kazzak, CoA and azuremyst, atm that's less than 25k people...

I jumped online for a free week few months ago, CoA was just dead, only about 20 people in trade chat, 2 in old guild...

I truly wish for wow2 to come out but that's what draenor was meant to be or a lot of people and blizz just failed to deliver

I first played on The Venture Co then took my 4 chars to Defias Brotherhood that cost me £60 then Blizzard merged all RPPVP realms which left me reeling to say the least.
I quit in January but if I go back i'll just make another toon on a different realm as heirlooms are account wide as well as mounts these days. The same goes with titles but I would have to move Tole to make gold as I have Vial of the sands recipe ;).

Plus I have a new Naga "my 3rd one" to try out with my anansi keyboard ;)

I've watched some of Healvsbabyface playing legion and can't say there is anything that really makes me want to go back, I've been playing FF14 and to me it's a better game for how i play

That's still 600k active players, hardly dead. Probably a large decline compared to a couple of years ago, but heck, 600k is still a lot of people. I know games which make do with a couple hundred active players. All they need to do is merge a couple of servers and the population will be just fine again.

Bring it on! I'm really looking forward to the new content. I had a great time in WoD having not played since early Cataclysm. I just hope this expansion keeps people playing. Lots of friends didn't stick around.

It's a shame OC3D doesn't have their own guild but then some of us are EU and some are elsewhere :(

compared to several million, its a huge drop, On kazzak, you had to wait a good hour to log on because you had wait in queue during raid reset nights + having several guilds waiting for everyone to jump into raid waiting at the entrance with 5 fps, all zones were always full or at least had dozens of people in taverns.

while people still play it, its very far from what it was, especially when blizz has to merge and close down inactive servers.

For a game that is soon going to be 12 years old i think it's still doing rather well. Sure it's a huge drop, but whether the game has 600k active players or 6kk shouldn't make a difference to anyone's in game experience.

If PVP is your thing it can make a difference. Especially if the talented players no longer exist. It stops being a challenge.

Warhammer online dropped to 500k players and look what happened to that game. The doors were shut a few years later with servers taken down.

It's the same for pve fella. I left because of the talented players leaving although I hear Legion will be more Dungeon focused rather than Raiding which although can be enjoyable it can be frustrating if you get inexperienced players. That whole being part of a guild feeling is missing from the game now as well. I really do not like it that you can have a level 100 char straight out of the box when you buy the expansion as it teaches the player nothing about their character.

I just hated the community. It was full of pure elitist trolls most of the time. I used to be in the top 3 guild on Kazzak and hated the attitude even my own guild showed towards others.

That was one of the reasons I left the game when I 1st started in Cata I was in a social guild which was full of helpful knowledgeable people who would go and craft you weapons gear etc. we even had a really good raid team now that helpful attitude seems to have been lost within that community and I really dislike elitist trolls. I do like that blizz are bringing in a silence mode in order to clean up the community. I have 4 level 100's all with different professions so im pretty self sufficient in game though

I think Blizz ruined the guilds when they introduced gold into it and the bonuses, you had guilds with 200 players and guild chat was empty, you'd have people making 5 or 6 guilds and never needing to worry about gold again. and LFR so you never need a guild, I can understand catering to the casual player but Blizz went over the top to make it easy and in that way you'd seen all the content in a week or 2 and got the gear.
The new silence I think is going to be a big grey area and abused something chronic, I'd like to know how it works how much investigation before you get silenced, what guide lines the GM's have, is it down to the individual GM's so you may get away with something 1 day and not another

Actually, I told a bit of a lie there. I forget how long ago it was. I was on Magtheridon not Kazzak.

I played since beta wow, up until WotLK. By then the community were ballistic.

@greenback

What new silence? is this some sort of temporary ban?
