wireless network range issue

Do you think I will need a bigger antenna on each floor?

hey guys

I'm doing an assignment for college, and there is one thing I am stumped on.

Basically I have to provide wireless signal to 4 floors.

Each floor is 150m x 150m, with 8m floor height.

Basically 3 floors will have dividing sections, and the basement shall not.

I am considering the following, from the server room (3rd floor (including basement)), I shall be having a wired network going to the wireless transievers (APs), which shall be G MIMO (not choosing N due to compatability issues on certain older laptops and device, and the other issue is that if i stay with G technologies, it will also work extremely well with SISO adapters).

Basically my question is this:

1. Do you think I will need a bigger antenna on each floor to push the signal the entire 150m (as i've got a sneaky feeling that the max (useful) range will be approx 40-60m)

2. IF I indeed choose to/have to use a higher dbi antenna, how do I stop the signal from going beyond my chosen target area (and having problems with potential stumblers). Also remember, that being in a theoretical business environment, modifying the router's firmware to allow for antenna power modification is out of the question).

thanks guys

Alex

sorry for my english ,but you can use the mikrotik routerboard Rb433AH or better RB600A with the four mini-.Pci slots for wifi cards. You can use wifi cards

"WNC DCMA-82 (CM11) miniPCI, Atheros AR5214, 802.11 a/b/g, 2,4 GHz a 5G"out power 200mW and you can use four sector antenna.it´s by my opinion

is this just for course work? Do budgets matter?

Personally i'd go for a managed solution, something like the following (netgear are one of the cheaper ones);

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/136618

then buy the light access points about around £100 each. I'm nearing the decision to only install managed wireless in our schools/businesses now.

you can see this page

xxx.routerboard.com/comparison.html

there are the price about router board and parameters.

every routerboard has the licence 4 or 5

about licence levels+price

wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Software_levels

internet provider use /in our towns/ WDS system for wifi between their AP´s at 5Ghz in licence zone /CFS/ and their use to clients PPPoE .

I have two router 433 and 411 distance about 1000 meters and ping <1ms at 5GHz

How about sticking one to the roof of a floor?

Maybe that would be enough to cover the floor its on, and the above floor?

I´m waiting for the mikrotik 493AH and 3 stocks wifi R52H.And I answer you on your question , becouse I will use first R52H -internet provider PPPoE

second R52H -AP to AP distance 200m at 2,4GHz

third R52H I use at home network over two floors and

I try to use 5 db antena

I see it next week

you should really try to do a survey, use netstumbler to do a rough one. You can spend hours and hours thinking about the best hardware. But your gonna get jack if there's loads of interference!

I don´t say ,that this hardware is best of all.I´m using this hardware.you don´t believe , you can see it

/219.148.108.190

there are rb 411 and rb433
