hey guys
I'm doing an assignment for college, and there is one thing I am stumped on.
Basically I have to provide wireless signal to 4 floors.
Each floor is 150m x 150m, with 8m floor height.
Basically 3 floors will have dividing sections, and the basement shall not.
I am considering the following, from the server room (3rd floor (including basement)), I shall be having a wired network going to the wireless transievers (APs), which shall be G MIMO (not choosing N due to compatability issues on certain older laptops and device, and the other issue is that if i stay with G technologies, it will also work extremely well with SISO adapters).
Basically my question is this:
1. Do you think I will need a bigger antenna on each floor to push the signal the entire 150m (as i've got a sneaky feeling that the max (useful) range will be approx 40-60m)
2. IF I indeed choose to/have to use a higher dbi antenna, how do I stop the signal from going beyond my chosen target area (and having problems with potential stumblers). Also remember, that being in a theoretical business environment, modifying the router's firmware to allow for antenna power modification is out of the question).
thanks guys
Alex
