Wireless help

This Problem has been driving me nuts for months

I had a phenom build with a DWA-556 wireless adapter (win7 b4bit, wireless N)) and it would give me about 10 mins internet before dropping out for 5 but after a couple days it stopped doing it and would work for ages like a couple months.

This was until I reformat or sometimes just randomly it would decide that I have had usable net for too long and stuff up again.

I've googled like crazy but no one seems to have my unique issue.

I tried a PCI wireless adapter and got the same issue

I also got a new SB build (not because of this issue) and once again got the same problems.

Its not my router as every other device is fine

I have tried changing power setting so the adapter does not power down when the computer goes to sleep

I have tried using the adapters software instead of Windows ones

Any help would be great.(while typing this is dropped out 2 times)

I never had anything but dropouts and problems with the drivers and hardware on all the d-link stuff that I used - that was before I sold it on or it died. Save yourself a load of grief and get yourself some homeplugs instead. Devolo are a good make.

i assume you have WPA2-PSK with AES algorithm set up as encryption?!

if you don't have any, this could be one of the many reasons why windows disconnects a wireless network frequently. expierienced that issue with windows vista though - even with encrypted networks. as you already checked power settings to the adapter that's the only thing that comes to my mind right now.

what wireless access point or wlan router/firewall (whatever) are you using?

i do support sheroo's opinion with the homeplugs.

currently using here without any problems:

- Sonicwall TZ210N (deep packet inspection firewall with wlan access point integrated)

- intel wlan adapters (laptop), couple of iphones, zyxel wlan adapters (usb)
