Them shots really make me want to got skiing - although I fancy trying snowboarding.

never did any of these sports, actually never seen snow, it is one of the downsides of a Mediterranean climate :(

Man that just sounds so.. I don't even know.. incomprehensible?

I used to go snowboarding at an indoor slope in the UK, and I've been snowboarding in Spain a few times with my friends, but I've not done it in years.

I've never been to Austria, but I'm going in January for the first time. It's not a snowboarding trip, I'm just off to stay with my mate in Wien doing a year of his degree there. I've been learning German for about three years now, but never spoke to anybody other than my friend who is a dual national, so his accent is fine to understand anyway. I'm hoping the Austrian German isn't too different to what I'm used to; as I understand it there's mainly differences like between US and UK English, but I'll just have to see.

On the other hand, I have a 5 month window each year in which I can go to the beach everyday haha :)

Yeah fair play, in Northern England that's a very rare thing, and any weekend it's sunny all the roads are full of traffic trying to get to the coast. Never been much of a fan of hot weather or sand in between my toes myself though :L

so I guess you're used to a British accent? the normal German accent should be a lot different. the Austrian one even more. that's like speaking English with an Indian and then a redneck I guess

Haha nice analogy :) Are there many differences other than accent, like many different words for different things? He speaks German with an okay German accent, but he tells me it's no where near as prominent as his German family.

Well, considering where I live, yes I ski, have since early childhood. :D

Although I haven't been on the slopes in the past two years for budgetary and health reasons,
but I definitely intend to take it up again. It's a bit like riding a bike, you get a tad out of practice,
but you can get back into it pretty quickly (last time I went skiing I hadn't been in a few years
either, went pretty well).

I don't think i'm skiing this season but hopefully next, I've given boarding a go a few times and I love it when the snow is good but I always find skis a safer bet for if you come across an icy patch whereas a board you're screwed without anything to carve into. Been skiing since I was about 5-6 mainly in Austria. Love it there, they have great snow normally and the people are really nice

Photos came out good Cru. Were they taken with the GoPro?

there are a couple. but most Austrians should understand both words. haven't had any problems yet.
jump on Skype/TS with seekax or me to get some practice
(oc3d ts - wink)

Oh thanks, I'll have to take you up on that some time, I'm up to my ears in report writing at the moment though. I should warn you though, I can read/write fairly well because I mainly text my friend (he lives 200 miles away), but I've got so little speaking practice it's unbelievable

finally got to test my GoPro this weekend.
here's a short video for those of you interested

The scenery looks amazing down that slope at around 2:00

I just got back from Wien a couple of days ago :) It was really nice, and it's made me realise how terrible the British transport system is :(

I couldn't tell much difference between the Austrian German and German after all, didn't get so much practise though, it was mainly just every time we were ordering meals or drinks :) Still, it was a great holiday and a wonderful city :)
