okay iv got a lil dilema here, im running a e6600 on a asus striker MOBO, Overclocked to 3.2 ghz, and usually wen im restarting or shutting windows down, it takes its time in doing so, i remember there was a tweak, cant exactly find it anymore, does anyone here know how on earth to make it shutdown and restart faster??? cheers.

Run regedit

Find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control

Select 'Control' folder

Select 'WaitToKillServiceTimeout'

Right click and select Modify

Lower the value to 200

Done!

Sweetness! Nice one Hyper.

OK - here is another tip of the day lol.

The /prefetch:1 command.

Go to your media player shortcut/find it in the start bar - right click, properties, look at the end of the target line - /prefetch:1

MS add this command to their programs to speed up load time. You can add this to most apps, some return error messages. If they do, simply remove the /prefetch:1 command.

So right click your favourite apps and add it on to drastically speed up load times :)

More to follow

Edit:

An obvious one but a good one... (sure most

Disable unwanted programs loading at start of Windows.

Why? It takes time to load all those programs/icons in system tray/services. Don't need it? Don't load it.

Start > Run > msconfig

Go to the Start Up tab

Look at the paths of the programs, turn off anything you don't need at the start... (those 'helper' 'updater' things seem common for itunes etc) I turn off most things bar anti virus/gpu drivers.

Cheers to Fadz too :)

also

start>run services.msc then disable things windows runs you dont want can give a massive boost

Doh - meant to say that! I'm at work rushing.. Oh well. Nice one though :D

I'll try dig up some more of the lesser known tweaks...
