New build, Delay/lag problem, Nvidia/W10

Hey peeps

Alright, So an odd one that i cant quite figure out myself, most of these things are new to me.

Its a new custom build i have just recently finished (need to create a gallery post i guess ^^) But i have this strange input lag/ freezing problem.

Essentially what happens is on every cold boot or restart of the system, When i get in to windows there seems to be some sort of Explorer Lag/delay, without any load on the system whatsoever.

For example, Hovering over a desktop icon usually displays location info, This kinda just shows a shadow instead, right clicking taskbar icons to bring up options of programs same thing, just an empty white box with a shadow. Opening programs like Nvidia control panel for example, i get an issue most people will know what i mean by when i say you can drag a box around the screen and watch it duplicate itself over and over until it eventually catches up with itself.

So thats basically the issue im getting.

First time using Windows 10 for me, so still getting use to where everything is located, I should probably note though that there is zero issues with windows 7 installed, So it leads be to believe W10 is causing the problem, somewhere, somehow. A setting i dont know of is out of whack perhaps.

The build uses 2 980Ti's.

I currently have the latest Nvidia driver, Although i did try an older 368 version but the same thing occured.

Now, here's the confusing part for me, which i dont really know much about or why this fixes it.

The problem occurs in SLI and also non-SLI.

If i enable/disable SLI, the problem disappears and will only re-appear upon a restart. If i change the monitor refresh rate from 60hz to anything and back again, the problem also disappears. (Yeah im using an old TV LCD dont hunt me down ;))

Since im new to Win 10 and also new to Nvidia (prior AMD) Im not really sure where the issue is and Ive never experienced something like this before so i have no past experience of remedy's for it.

If anyone has any idea of whats possibly causing it would be very grateful. :)

So are you using HDMI, DVI or VGA to connect to the TV? TV's are not generally a preferred screen choice, I myself get ghosting when I use our LG 32" TV (depends on the model) do you have access to a dedicated monitor to check?

Have you tried DDU (display driver uninstaller) before you fit both cards in sli?

Edit: Command prompt "scannow" will also see if all other drivers are in place?

Hi, i should have mentioned, HDMI for this. I dont have a dedicated monitor to check sadly. This screen is all i have at the moment. This is also an LG.

Hey, The cards have been fitted in SLI since the build ever first received power since they are watercooled, And were present when the first ever Driver was installed.

I have been using DDU in between trying the older driver though to make sure.

It really seems a driver based issue. I read on another forum with a similar problem. Seemed the guy fixed it with a new mobo. Probably fixed due to a fresh install of software rather than any hardware issue.

Could it possibly be related somewhat to the fact that the pc was originally built and installed with Windows 7, then upgrading to Win 10? Ive never purchased Windows 10 personally, Just using my Win 7 install/Key then taking advantage of the Win 10 upgrade program.

Yes I believe so. Try running scannow to check your drivers, it's a start. Other than that I can only suggest a clean install.

Edit: not sure about an upgrade path to a fresh install tho?

Most of us that took the upgrade path quickly did a fresh Win 10 install once the key had been transferred, the upgrade option threw up quite a number of issues for many people. I'd say do a fresh clean install and report back your findings.

I am however inclined to say that the issue is using a TV with an SLI setup though.

I'l check them over, After windows 10 upgraded i did go around and download most drivers again from scratch and freshly installed them after removing old ones completely just to try make sure everything was Win 10 Compatible. It was a new build so there wasn't really a whole lot on the PC besides the original Win 7 OS anyway.

If worst comes to the worst I'll just have to swap refresh rate and back again each power on.

I would like to hope it isnt a hardware related issue, most of it barely has 2 weeks of use by now.

Yeah its possible its the SLI related issue, happens with it disabled also but could still be affecting it.

The TV worked for the best part of 4 years on the old system, but that was AMD and only a single card so i cant really compare anything.

Highlander, hope you get it working bud. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thanks for your time, appreciated. I will try some things and see if i can remedy it after work.

I haven't made a gallery of sorts yet but i do have one picture to hand at least.

Im quite happy and proud getting it to this point, just a bummer this ever so small tiny hindrance is foreshadowing it. :headscratch:

Sweet looking set up, I'm jealous. So have you named her yet?

Don't know if you got the problem fixed, but a clean Install of Windows will fix many issues that comes with upgrading your OS. It's recommended you even do a clean install as well. So much so that even MS has included a "reset" button to get it to reinstall for you. If all else fails, I'd try that.
