Windows XP 2024 Edition is everything I want from a new OS

XP was decent OS back in the day for it's time, but I used to reinstall that every 6 months due to it slowing down under it's own weight, I've not got rose tinted glasses or does anyone else miss dial up 3k speeds ? Thing is it was decent back then but na I'll stick with the modern thankyou as much as i can appreciate the past I'm perfectly happy to skip ahead to a distant future where my whole PC is run on quantum lasers :D

XP was just 2000 with a front end. Which after 98 and ME? was miles better.

Problem is 7 kicked the crap out of all of them. Their best OS ever, IMO.

That said 8 was also brilliant, people just didn't know it yet. I mean, given 10 and 11 have been very similar it was clearly a good formula. But aye, I have no want to go back to XP tbh.

The biggest thing ever was getting off their crap kernel and getting onto the NT one.

Windows 8 was atrocious until they upgraded it to 8.1. How can you accept 8s Windows start menu in its original state?

Honestly do miss Rockers Win XP.

I think it was called Windows XP black edition or something similar. Every useless feature ripped out and removed leaving an OS that was purely for Gaming. The good days.

Failing that.. I remember upgrading from Win95 to Win98 and finally being able to use USB peripherals. Happy days indeed.

The days of plug and pray lol. I never used anything USB til well past Win 2k. It was all very expensive !

TBH I would say the defining moment of my entire PC-hood will always be the hacked version of Direct X that was made for Win 2k. That really WAS a game changer. Finally an OS that didn't crap the bed every couple of months from bloat but could run games too. I mean afterall? that is what XP was. Just 2k with a nice skin on.

I think as OSes go though? 7 will always be my fave. Did everything you wanted and was blazingly fast doing so.

7 was really the massive change it was a solid OS, 10 and 11 are basically 7 with telemetry mixed in, I've never used the start menu in windows i've always added my own option same with much of the other interface.

The worst OS they ever made and i do mean the worst was Vista omg i tried it and it was so bad I never went back to it, it really was that bad for me :D

Now windows 8 with a different start menu was actually very decent and at least they tried something new, the real issue i've had at times with the newer windows since 7 is they just can't seem to make up their mind how your going to update, like so many loops to do it. I mean come on what is windows update for if it's not used to update the PC lol

Nah ME was worse trust me.

I worked at a computer place when ME launched and I can't even begin to tell you what a nightmare it was.
