Windows borked itself after Windows Backup restore???

Ok wtf is going on here....

I redid my tri-boot last night. I reinstalled all 3 OS's and had them all booting from GRUB just fine.

So after I got all that working good I decided to boot in to Windows and start the 3 hour backup restore process with the Windows Backup tool. Well after it got done and had me restart, it gives me an error before Windows even tries to load.

I forget the exact error, but something about missing HAL's and DLL's. Anyone know why this happened, how to fix it, and why MS Backup sucks donkey?

Thx.

ive used it a couple times in the past but it takes so damn long.

i find it best to just copy the files/folders etc you need backed up to another hard drive.

Can`t remember how it happens, but this is something to do with the processor drivers.

The HAL section u can select during the installation of windows when it asks if u want to press F6 to install scsi stuff and u press F5 instead. Then it goes on to list the type of processor u have.

This link won`t solve any probs in itself, but is worth a read and probably contains something relevant to u`r situation perhaps.

I ended up having to do in inline upgrade which solved everything and still retained all of my backed up settings when done. Only problem was that I had to reinstall SP2 / hotfixes.

Another great thing is that it didn't overwrite my MBR when I did the inline so I wasn't arsed to reinstall GRUB :)

I now successfully have 2k3 / Linux / OS X tri-booting. I must say I'm having a friggin' ball being able to switch to all 3 of the worlds most dominate OS's :)
