Windows 8/1 installation issue

Hey guys, finished putting my computer together yesterday, but I've got a problem.

Got Windows 8.1 OEM on disk with the key on the packaging, and was planning to install it via an external dvd drive, problem is, I've lost the drive.

I've got a 16GB usb stick I could install it from, the only question is, how would I do that? Bit of a beginner here guys, and feedback would be really appreciated, thankyou.

I tried the guide by Rambo, wouldn't work, kept coming up with 'Damn!' at the end.

The method you suggested hmmblah, I don't know what to do with it.

This is driving me mad, just need this sorted to get going with my computer.

You need to have an iso file of win8.1. Either create an iso using your disc or download the iso here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/upgrade-product-key-only

After you have it downloaded, download and install the Windows 7 usb/dvd tool I linked above. After it's installed, run the program. It's self explanatory after that. It walks you through what you need to do.

I don't know how to make an iso, I've not done this before, that's my issue.

For some reason, WintoBootic wasn't working.

If you put the windows disc in to your pc or another pc and use Rufus, it should make a bootable usb pen drive.

The other option is to use the download link above and download the iso from Microsoft using the Windows 8.1 or Windows 8 installer, and that will download the files and then once done, it will ask you what media you want to create, select ISO and then use Rufus or Windows USB tool to make a bootable USB drive for the iso.

Tried the link above to download the iso, got the message, 'This product key cannot be used to install a retail version of Windows 8.1'.

I don't know how to make an iso using the disc I have, and with WintoBootic not working, I'm not sure what to do.

To create the ISO from your disc you will need to be on a computer that has a DVD drive.

Download and install imgburn.

Once it's installed, insert your disc then launch imgburn. On the menu that pops up pick "Create image file from disc".

In the destination area next to "Please select a file..." click the folder icon. Choose a location to save the iso file and type a name for it. Lastly, click the image in the bottom left to start the creation.

Sorry if im being thick here hmmblah, but which type of imgburn do I install, there's mirror 1-7?

I've downloaded the Windows 7 Usb tool

All those links are for the same program. A mirror is simply alternate storage/download locations of a file. Choose any 1 of the 7, preferably one closest to your geographic location.

Edit: They don't list their geographic location lol. Just choose one, I usually do betanews.

I've started the creation, chose mirror 7, imgburn.

Just waiting for it to complete then I'll use the Windows 7 USB/DVD tool, hopefully this works.

USB boot drive made, gonna give it a shot, let you know if I have any more grief, thanks for your help hmmblah
