, now here's the problem:

This morning I turned on my computer to discover Windows 7s first service pack available on windows update, I of course began the update then went to work, while at work used teamviewer to check up on it, was showing 75% through installation, got home and was the same, left it for a while and came back, same. So obviously something wasn't working right so I restarted, while shutting down it appeared to finish installing SP1, (the configuring updates screen appeared). However when I rebooted and logged in the windows volume and networking icons appeared in the system tray, the network one frozen with the loading symbol and teamviewer loaded. Tried to go into control panel and the start menu froze when I clicked on control panel. Rebooted into safe mode and everything was working fine, but found out that SP1 didn't in fact install as I tried to uninstall it and it wasn't there. Supposedly also there are no restore points although I saw windows update making one. Loading last known good configuration gave the same results. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Not sure what could be causing the problem but you could try downloading the SP1 .iso and installing it like that rather than through updates, it might have a repair option on there as well.

Al though installation supposedly failed it looks like whatever was changed before the failure has fixed the problem, now going to continue installing SP1 outside of safe mode, hooray! Thank You.
