Windows 10 & SSD: disable prefetch and superfetch?

You're right they are, however prefetch was set to 3 in the reg and superfetch didn't even have a key so I created one, after disabling it from services.

Basically, I just followed the SSD optimization guide. If there's an updated guide for win 10 I'll take gladly take it!

TBH if you were happier on Windows 8.1 just go back to 8.1, IMO now Windows 10 is not meant for everyone.

IMO Windows 10 boot up and Shut down is not quicker than Windows 7 for me, I don't see how people are seeing 5 or 10 second boot ups & shut downs.

Depends if they count from the moment of power on, or from the moment the post screen disappears.

Mine from boot is fast at the moment. but only if counting from the post screen.

How many secs would you say? And you count from the black screen with centered windows logo, I assume?

As soon as you press the power button. That why i said i can't see any difference at all

Surely counting before the post screen doesn't count as it hasn't even booted the OS yet? W10 is definitely quicker than 8 for me.

I'm not sure how accurate this is but here's my last boot time from bios

Exactly. I can count later tonight from power on if it helps but it is not 5 sec from power on!

Cheers SPS!

I wish ha ha! I do wonder what's making 10 that much slower for me. I've been disabling startup items and will cut back more tonight, maybe it'll improve a bit?

I thought windows has disabled fetch for ssds for a while now? I have a Samsung SSD that has it's own software that handles this kind of thing anyways, do you have software for your Crucial drive installed? Might just make life easier. Regarding start-up items, might be worth disabling everything and booting up - if it's still slow then you know to look elsewhere.

I think people are getting confused the "Last Bios Time" is not the time from a cold boot it is

The Last BIOS time shows how much time it took after power on to prepare the hardware before Windows could begin loading.
