Windows 10 & SSD: disable prefetch and superfetch?

Yeah last BIOS time is indeed just that. Found this on the MS site:

"Last BIOS time is the amount of time it took to load the BIOS. The BIOS allows the operating system to communicate with the hardware. The Last BIOS time shows how much time it took after power on to prepare the hardware before Windows could begin loading. This information might be useful in troubleshooting slow startups."

My Task Manager doesn't show it, so I used this string in Powershell that might have enabled it?

select-string 'last bios time' C:\Windows\System32\en-US\Taskmgr.exe.mui -enc unicode | select matches

@ SPS: I will count, with a stopwatch lol EDIT: Cold boot from the moment I pressed the power button to the desktop was 39.01 seconds.

@ ph235: I have no Crucial software installed, will look into that! EDIT: There're no utilities for the drive, but I did find a firmware update so I'll do that. Maybe there's some options in the software needed to flash the firmware. Only thing is momentum cache, which I enabled.

@ Mr. Lo: Should be as it was better in 8.1 and I didn't change a thing. Nevertheless, I will take a look. EDIT: Looked but I don't see either option in the BIOS.

windows 10 takes about 10minuets to wake up out of sleep mode for me..
the thing goes to sleep after 2 hours of no use "well it did" then it stays asleep for about 6 hours (because im in bed asleep my self)
i wake up press escape to wake it up, and have to wait 10 mins for it to actually display an image on screen..

So i disabled the turn off monitor option in power saving.

boot times are fast. faster than 7 imo. but that 10 mins for the monitor thing to come on has forced me to disable a lot of power saving options.
but apart from that 10 is better in almost every respect. "i still dont like the start bar though"

Dam that must be annoying. It's possible a usb device is being problematic on resume from sleep, might be worth disconnecting everything you can and trying a sleep then resume and see what happens.

just dissabled the monitor power off feature last night lol. it had been annoying me for quite a while. its fine now though.

There was a topic ages ago comparing boot times, I found the program used and this is what I got.

Do a full fresh reinstall. It'll get rid of anything causing a slow boot if you upgrade. Win7 is easily slower to boot than 10 for me. First thing I noticed and thats still entering a password.

Did the whole upgrade to avoid having to do just that. :) there must be a quicker way... If the issue persists after I've exhausted all options - that is, if there's a problem to begin with, I mean, maybe my boot time is just normal (?) - I'll contemplate a fresh install (already read out me key just in case).

Curious to all of your boot times...do tell...

For me i still don't see Windows 10 being faster and i'm using the same programs i had on Windows 7, If it's faster for everyone else that's great it's not for me, I'm still getting random issues with Windows 10 that i never got with 7.

Windows 7 until they pry it from my EULA signing hands!(Or if vulcan is actually a thing Linux FTW)

I just reinstalled my OS yesterday spent the best part of 2 hours looking for problem updates, the telemetry stuff, the Windows 10 update advertisements all gone, feels snappy no issues with anything, no ads in my start menu oh yeah start menu i've never lost it so i've never missed it, windows 10 is not for me DX12 still isnt really here yet so what would I want to jump?

I agree about the Linux FTW, My plans is to install Linux not sure which one & going back to windows 7 cause for me i can't see any difference but running Windows 7 in a WM i think that is the way that people should run Windows nothing can get in and nothing can get out.

I'm not going to be playing any DX12 games for a long time i'm happy with my DX11 games.

My only real linux experience is with Backtrack/Kali and a very brief stint with ElemetaryOS, I wouldnt really recommend either for gaming really but Kali was fine running W7 under VM but I dont really have enough experience with linux dystros, but yea a nice sterile environment to play games seems like a great idea, my only issue is my cpu doesnt have the vt-d extensions so no GPU pass through :(

Just back everything up and then do a reinstall. Otherwise it's loaded with previous junk from the last OS and slows it down. You won't need to reenter any keys if you do so. When it asks you during the OS install just skip it and after you get your internet up Windows will automatically reactivate since your key was already activated on there server. They whole key/license thing is different with W10.

i dont comprehend why people wouldnt want dx12 for free. the os it comes with isnt bad at all. much better than 8. start bar being a bit stupid isnt that big of a deal its not like windows 8.
i would much rather get it now when its free than wait around and then have to buy it later because i want the new api..
And vulkan.. well thats a long long way away if you ask me.

It's not free dude, everyone pays via advertisements and the selling of their personal information for marketing and product development, also just because the OS works a certain way (free as you say) does not mean it will always be so, whats going to stop Microsoft asking for a subscription if you want DX12 in the future, obviously this is complete cojecture on my part but not outside the realm of possibility for these corparations, at the end of the day they will get paid but myself personally I would rather pay up front know what I am getting and not have to worry about future changes, I wont ever update my W7 key to W10, I just cant be sure what Microsoft will do in the future.

In regards to Vulkan I dont think its as far off as you think you should look at some of the recent Dev conferences, Ill dig them out of my YT history and post them for you if you like.

Also search for "Valve recommends Vulkan over DX12" they stated unless you need to release a game this year under DX12 there is no point in developing for DX12, of course they have incentive to make such comments but it certainly indicates it wont be too long until its available.

i honestly dont see vulkan being any sort of anything for atleast 7 years possibly longer.
Devs will have already started work with dx12 by now for games to be released within that time frame.
vulkan wont be ready for atleast a year if not more so there wont be anything that can use it for quite a while.
If dx12 games can be easily patched to use vulkan then that would make a difference, But i dont see vulkan being much more than an api for mobile games for quite a few years..
small casuall games "mostly mobile ports" may well start using vulcan in the next 3 years or so..
but big budget AAA games "and i dont mean the ones they churn out 1ce a year ubisoft fodder" i just cant see them using anything other than direct x in this decade.

I wont argue with you mate but I would urge you when you have some time to do a bit more digging, see who has backed this, look at the VOD's to see the state of development, considering how adaptive Vulkan is in regards to platforms I can see it being used extensively but as I said I wont argue your opinion with mine but seriously take a good look :)

Here is a good video about Secure Your Privacy & Stop the Spying on Windows 10

"Nothing's free and if it is free you're probably the product"

I seen this a while back, it seems some of their recommendations are being overwritten so to speak, regedits being reverted etc very naughty Microsoft =00=
