I upgraded my windows 8.1 to windows 10 on the 01/08/15.
The issues I have are:-

Have a start menu but will not open
Windows edge will not open
No Cortana
Cannot add another user

What I have tried to date are:-

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:C:\Sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Get an error with this Get-AppXPackage not recognized.

sfc /scannow

Get-appxpackage -all *shellexperience* -packagetype bundle |% {add-appxpackage -register -disabledevelopmentmode ($_.installlocation + “\appxmetadata\appxbundlemanifest.xml”)}

Do any of you guys know of any think else I can try? Also I f I roll back to windows 8.1 can I still come back to windows 10 in say 6 moths time?

Cheer’s

If the W8.1 key you have is activated in W10 then I suggest downloading the ISO and installing a fresh copy of W10. Since you upgraded from W8.1, the software issues you have are going to be pretty deep since windows is conflicting with essentially the older one. I haven't seen any of the issues you have around the net yet so the best option is probably reinstall.

But to answer your other question, yes you can roll back and yes it will still work when upgrading again. However you may still have the same issues since you really are just upgrading from the same thing you have now but in 6 months time.

Microsoft is preparing a service pack that will hit us in the next few days that will adress most of the issues. If the update comes and doesn't fix my issues I'll re-install

I've been having similar issues since yesterday. My PC hadn't been online for about 3/4 days - I logged on fine yesterday, used the PC for a few hours. I wasn't connected to the internet this time.

A little later, Steam threw one of its periodic hissy fits where it DEMANDS to go online (despite being in Offline mode) and locks you out of your games until you do. I connect to the net and Windows does a couple of forced updates, a cumulative security update, an update for Internet Explorer (lol) and a flash security update. It then says I have to restart so I do so.

Upon reboot logging in takes 30-40 seconds, rather than the usual 2 or 3 and, once at the desktop, the start button no longer works, the MS Edge Icon is missing - just a blank - and the taskbar no longer shows any notifications. Going into notifications sees them unclickable, and going into settings takes 30-40 seconds to come up.

Basically ALL of this happened after a forced update. I tried removing the updates Windows had just installed - while disconnected from the internet, but this made no difference. I tried an sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt and it found nothing. This command restored the notifications in the taskbar area - so things like Coretemp and the like I have running - but nothing else:

From an elevated command prompt type:

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

but I'm still stuck with the long login times, a long delay when trying to go into All Settings and a non-functional Start button. All games etc. run just fine though.

I'm hoping a subsequent update will fix this botched one. I'm NOT prepared to do a full reinstall of Windows at this time.

If anyone has any suggestion myself, and the OP no doubt, would be interested to read them.

Scoob.
