Wifi that sucks

yea thats what I have. Why does wifi never work consistently... with both my broadcome and my netgear ma111v1 usb dongle... I cannot rely on these cards to work. One problem with the usb dongle is that I almost neer get the 3rd tab in properties that allows me to configure the wifi... but thats semi ok... and perhaps because windows has another gui for scanning and all that... unlike the windows on my lappy. But what is with it choosing not to scan most of the time. It doesnt even try to scan. I KNOW there are at least two networks always available... so its not that. Anyone have/had this issue... its driving me MAD!

WiFi works the best with matching gear and real NIC's.... The USB wifi cards work, but I've heard numerous gripes about them randomly disconnecting and not picking up local networks.

its not even that so much... im not even talking about connecting.. i just need windows to do a better job of using the device itself... it doesnt like scanning...

Are you sure it's not a hardware problem? MS's integrated WiFi handler seems to do a great job with PCI WiFi cards.

this card is supposed to be an awesome one... but its only the hardware so much as windows doesnt like it.. the included utility works fine but sucks as it doenst allow me to scan the way i want to... its fully automatic and rarely connects to ad hoc... my broadcom had a nice utility with all the features of the windows Wireless Zero and then some... i just need a generic wifi controller app... that will probably be the way to go... like on linux.. but for windows because ive had my fill of linux for the time being

I have never had a problem with wifi like that

Netgear routers have always been consistant for me, and I love this linksys SRX pci card :D

I've had a quick look around for generic software for you but havn't been able to turn anything up really. I'll keep looking tho and let you know if i find anything useful.

yepp i agree with that eguy never had any problems with them :)

if you're using XP the wifi no configuration service is a bitch. I would suggest upgrading your OS. it just does not handle wifi very well.
