Why were not in Euro 08

Because a bunch of overpaid and over valued prima donnas can't play together. Or, if you believe the Scot in Manchester, it is the Frenchman's fault in north London

Based on tonight:

Wrong choice in goal, of the three keepers of limited quality, James is the best (biased as I am a pompey fan) and on a night where experience and commitment count for a lot, Carson was the wrongest choice.

However, poor tactics, hitting the ball to Crouch at the first chance doesn't work and won't work.

Shaun WP and Joe Cole could beat their full backs all day but their deliveries were non-existent. David Beckham showed with one cross how he is infinitely better than SWP.

In the end Croatia knew exactly what to do, exactly how they should play. They played better football, a system their players looked comfortable playing. England looked clueless as to how to play and it showed. Croatia are, man for man, not as skilled as the England players on the night, exception being Wayne Bridge and Steven Gerrard, who were both tragically poor. They came to win. And with some fortune they did, they made substitutions at the right times, the fresh pair of legs at 2-2 I think was the difference and a nicely timed goal from him too, again Carson was to blame.

However the England managers job is now a very unattractive proposition, as effectively there is nothing to do for a year until qualification again starts. The man who may be able to do the job Martin O'Niell has only been at Villa 18 months. Quite why he would leave them to do nothing for a year I don't see.

Steve McLaren, if sacked, can look back and see that he was unlucky with injuries. Bad fortune in the goalkeeping department. But at the end of the day, we'd rather be very lucky and qualified.

eek, I didn`t realize they played tonite, I`m kinda outta sync.

Crouch is over-rated, speaking as a Liverpool fan, but in anycase - similarly with goalkeepers, there are ample numbers of players to play in most positions and alledgedly (seeing as they`re paid 5 figures a week, 6 in some cases) they should be good enough. Play Brazil, Germany, Italy, France and there`s some quandries, but nevertheless should run them close.

Ray Wilkins should have had the england job when u got that ericson guy, he`s the most player-knowledgable, england based and respected guy who u would get no change from if u couldn`t play cos of a bad toe. Media friendly, isn`t likely to be backed with scandal (which of course is important to an english newspaper), and I doubt it`d cost millions to have him.

Don`t understand Mclaren as a choice, well.. actually I semi-do, he was put there to fail so they could justify spending 10m pound on the next coach. Who btw won`t give a crap cos he`s `getting paid` - but the FA chiefs will feel justified in their choice cos they`re `the best coach available`, so they won`t look bad.

Newspapers will pick the next coach. Think they picked the last 2 atleast. Getting to be like how politicians are picked.

i pretty much agree,

except...

cruch didnt get a chance, a a striker on his own he has nobody to play the ball to. ie, knock it down to somebody's feet, which is what hes good at.

mclaren was the choice because he followed erikson in every way. 2 words...stuart pearce...

i would choose james every day of the week now that all 3 keepers have made important errors.

i may elaborate on this 2moro, but im so drunked its taken me about 20 mins to write this :p

nite all xx

It's sad because at the time we need just a result, we manage to play at our worst. I'm afraid that this isn't the end of the line for the players of this generation, which really it should be. I do not want to see this same team of..

Robinson

Cole

Terry

Ferdinand

Neville

Beckham

Lampard

Gerrard

Cole

Rooney

Owen

ever to play together again. Simple. Underlined could be retired/not selected due to age/fitness, by the time of the next competitive match. Time and time again, the team made of our best players has proved it doesn't work. Our best team will work. Our best team, I don't think will ever contain both Gerrard and Lampard in the centre. Unfortunately, the players have always proved to be bigger than the manager. Which ultimately means we need a good manager with bawls. We'll struggle to attract one.

Lazy passionless players and a total lack of defensive talent...and it showed

Becks was the only one with class (as shown by that great ball).

Manager should be retired to be a trainer as his talent deserves and we should get a manager who has balls and passion...Stuart Pearce

Just face it - English football players are overpayed pieces of

Aye the players were cr@p but there was a total lack of motivation from the manager and many of the top players didn't see him as a proper coach. At least Ericsson was respected.

His squad selection left a little..ok a lot to be desired

i agree about the squad selection, it really wasnt the time to experiment.

Well it's a combination of things....

Firstly Steve McLaren used 37 different players in the qualifying games and 7 different striking pairs! Ok some were due to injuries but come on, that does cry out "umm I dunno what I'm doing".

Having said that, how do you motivate 11 millionaires to win a game? It's not that easy, especially when some of these players refuse to pay for England if they don't get paid for it!! It should be an honour to represent your country for christ sake!!

Mind you, changing the manager isn't necessarily going to solve it. Since 1970, England have taken part in 20 competitions (i.e. Euro cups, World cups, etc) and do you know how many Semi-Finals we've got to? TWO! Two semi finals in 20 competitions!!

Shocking eh!

It`s a dire situation when u have to motivate players to play for the national side. There should be 6+ leader figures on the field at any one time, they should be able to tackle any situation on the pitch. There`s both European, league and cup winners with oodles of experience.

Perhaps some didn`t get as much selection bonus and they would have modelling for Nike or whatever.

Quite a disgrace. But england aren`t the only side like that.

Oh and erm.. John Terry as captain ? Which newspaper arranged that ? There`s only one guy that immediately suprung to mind when Beckham moved aside - and he shouldn`t play the same time as lampard, as he`s a muppet too. Lampard is like the worlds best example of 28 shots at goal - 2 on target.

Football aye ?
