Just out of curiosity which company/companies should i stay away from when shopping around for an SSD?

OCZ, tbh other than that I don't really know much about others.
Although I will tell you which ones to stick with, Corsair or Samsung or Crucial

Rediculously bad failure rate, their reliability with a lot of older drives left much to be desired if the grapevine is to be believed.

There are many reasons but I guess the easiest way to put it is this - they have the worst return rate, nearly 10% of their ssd's are returned

sandisk/samsung/corsair all use the same oem... intel/crucial/muskin/pny again same oem
corsair samsung and sandisk currently are the best and most reliable also have the best warrenty's.
i done a hell of a lot of searching the last month or so since i won 2nd in the christmas comp and wanted an ssd. i chose the samsung for price/performance sandisk are the cheapest of the 3 corsair is the best performance and warrenty.
samsung stole it though at the current price point £80 for 128gb with solid 530mb read 300mb write and a 10 year warrenty. if corsair dropped the price to match the samsung on there gtx series then i would choose them anyday of the week.

I believe Linus (from NCIX) mentioned in a Live stream or an unboxing that OCZ actually is in the top 3 brands of SSD's, for NCIX anyway, when it comes to return rates.
Number 1 having the lowest, meaning that OCZ is actually good.
I would believe Linus over anyone else, simply because it's literally his job. He even mentioned he wasn't sure if it was ok for him to mention the numbers, so he didn't, but he just said they have one of the best return rates for NCIX out of all the companies that they do business with.

So... yeah.

Samsung, Crucial, Kingston HyperX 3k series, Intel, Mushkin, and Sandisk are the top brands i would recommend to anybody
I did not mention corsair simply because i think other companies deserve more popularity and more sales. This is how technology will move forward compared to one company getting all the sales.

I watch Linus all the time, the problem is I'm hearing more people put down OCZ than praise them. Some people have different experiences with products like for example a group of people say a company like Gigabyte have terrible products but another group of people with say Gigabyte has great products (This isn't a fact I was just being hypothetical). The problem is I've even seen OCZ problems first hand, my friend had a 2 year old PSU from OCZ and it died, I have a 6-7 year old PSU and it still works perfectly fine. Now I'm not putting down OCZ 3 people I know have an OCZ SSD and they work great, but than again it is all hearsay and I haven't seen proof to any side of the argument.

Intel, Crucial, and Samsung are my top 3, with Corsair coming in just behind.
Intel are generally more expensive, and Samsung are currently outranking Crucial in terms of raw speed. So, for now, my vote's with Samsung.

That's really the problem. People will speak up if they have issues, but how often would you make a post/thread/etc to say something works fine?
