Who here is playing with Windows 8

If only it didn't have metro it would be perfect :( I wish they would bring out a version with no metro but still had all the other benefits

Currently have it dual-booted w/ Windows 7 on my laptop, and after a couple hours of use I really HATE IT! Navigating metro with a mouse and keyboard just seems awkward, the only thing I like about it is that it's fast. Hopefully someone will hack it to function like Win 7, then I'll download it in a heartbeat.

I dont play whit Windows 8, have my W7 and that is just fine to me right now. ;)
- but i will keep my selv up to date on it..

Why don't people like Metro!? I thought it was very good... Easy to navigate also. I does seem a bit weird at first, but after the 5 months I've spent with it, it's second nature... Access all of your programs on one, easy to read interface? Sounds good to me...:)

People don't like change, it's human nature :)

Hahaha... It's true though. Maybe that's why Apple is changing iOS devices in baby steps, to keep people from freaking out??? Just a thought.... :p

You're assuming that just because you like it, it's change for the better. If it took you months to get used to it, perhaps it isn't the best thing for a lot of users?

There's a reason that the current desktop-type GUI has lasted as long as it has, and in my opinion it doesn't have much to do with the unwashed masses being resistant to change. I think it's because it works, it's easy to use, and it's easily customizable. I get that M$ wanted to create an OS that's well-suited to touch screen devices, but not including an option for desktop and notebook users to disable the Metro interface is (imo) moronic, and smells of M$ saying "we're changing things because we can - deal with it".

I think we'll eventually see the option, simply because I can't see most businesses adopting Windows 8 as it is currently. I'd be surprised if it sells very well to home users as well.

Iam using Windows 8 Pro 64bit and Im liking it can't really say that I have had too many issues and I have had it for about a month now but time will tell, I do like how fast it is though it boots faster than 7 and it opens everything faster too.

I haven't had any issues driver wise because both ASUS and Nvidia both had Windows 8 drivers out when I built Snow Storm...

Has anybody else not even been able to get IE10 to open??? It only worked for a little while... :/

Im talking the smaller drivers firstly my HD 4890 wasnt supported by CCC in windows 8 making my life of having a tv connected to my monitor hard and smaller driver issues ive bumped into are like HTC windows 8 drivers making my custom rom One X install a no go atm

But im getting used to it overall just wish they had a option to turn on the damn start bar

Hi there,

I just installed Windows 8 last night. Although the instalation process wasnt as smooth as I though it would be, it was pretty easy. I only had 1 or 2 issues the first boots of it.

I left Windows 7 instalation and I have Windows 8 at his side, there is the problem, since Windows 8 takes over everything. Anyway, its working. Another problem with that was with Nvidia Drivers, but that is bugs from early releases, basically I downloaded it and everything was fine, I started instaling the drivers and when you get to that part where the screen blinks a couple times, he got stuck, the screen kept blinking black, just getting signal, no signal, over and over again. Strangly, when I reset and boot up, everything was fine and working.

----------My expericence with Windows 8-----------

Well, as an OS from Microsoft Im SUPER impressed with it. Im a performance freak and this OS just takes it all, super fast, super light, its impressive, specialy when the guys that did it was Microsoft.

And the resource manager and impact of it is just crazy.

The game Ive been playing the most is League of Legends, its not a demanding game for my system, so I have everything on max, running at 1080p and in windows 7 I would get an unstable 120FPS (would go from 80 to 130fps), in windows 8 with the same hardware, same settings I'm getting 190/210FPS stable, the performance boost was crazy just from changing the OS. I know I dont need those FPS, but its a huge headroom to start laggying.

The new layout
: Honestly, windows had to change sooner or later and in my eyes the changes they did were good. You just need to get used to use the windows key more often as it opens and closes the apps windows and that makes it very easy and fast to use, I like it.

The only issue I had with windows 8 so far as functionality of it was in multiple displays. I have 2 23" LCDs and on windows 7 I was using someting called "Actual Windows manager" which was awesome. I would have the programs icons only on the monitor they were, the windows bar was all the way in the 2 monitors, so 2 start buttons, 2 clocks, 2 everything, but spliting the open apps and pinned icons.
Another thing is that windows 7 (or that aplication), would respect in which monitor I would start the apps. In windows 8, it wants to open the apps allways in the monitor 1, which is stupid and anoying. I need to see if there is a turn around for that.

For me its all, I hope I helped someone with my 1 day experience xD

Thanks,
Ralms

Haven't used win8 yet and have a question. On win7 when I want to launch an app quickly I usually press the Windows key and start typing the program name. After the first few letters the app I want is highlighted and I just hit the enter key to launch the app. So much quicker than using a shortcut from the desktop and I don't have to minimize anything nor do I need to move my hand to the mouse. Is there similar functionality in Win8?

Yeah there is, but I not sure if is as handy as in windows 7. I know that when you go into all the apps (in the right side thing) you can type and it will seach as in windows 7.

As soon as I get home, I will take a look, try to find shortcuts and let you know.

EDIT:

As of my search now, yeah, if you do WKey + Q it will open the App search window and you can type normaly.
There is a lot of shortcuts:

Looks like it works the same as in Win7:

1. Windows key (on its own)
Hitting the Windows key on its own brings up the Metro desktop. However, if you then start typing Windows will begin searching (just as it used to on the old Start menu), finding apps, files and settings. You can also switch to searching other Metro apps from within the interface. You can navigate the results with the arrow keys and Enter, so you don’t need to use a mouse at all.

Yeah, that is cool. I need to try it out when I get home.

And the app system looks promising. I have twitter there (a version of it) and it just so much better with the app then in the browser. More organized. Now imagine forums, Gmail, youtube, etc all with their app.

Well Wikipedia is already there XD
