Hey guys well as above really ive decided to upgrade my XP OS but im not sure what version I should get ive narrowed it down to pro or ultimate but should I get 32 or 64 and where is the best place to buy it ive looked around and the cheapest is ebay but is there any scams I should know about.

windows home would probably be fine, if you look at the microsoft website it shows you the differences between them. 32bit or 64bit if you buy a retail package then the majority of the time they come with both, but if you buy oem then you will have to pick the right one. for 64bit it allows you to have more than 4gb ram where as 32bit limits you to 3gb.

buying wise I wouldn't really buy it off ebay but thats my preference, i would buy it from places like amazon/ebuyer/overclockers/ccl/novatech

I thought the 32bit 3gb and 64bit 4gb was a vista issue cos I run 4gb (obciously dont use it all with XP) so would 64 be a better bet.

64bit profesional would be fine it has most of the features.

ultimate jus has some microsoft security rubish and bitlocker

but remember the oem version you can only install once, and if you spend an extra fiver you can get the retail version of home premium from scan too

I have OEM Vista and its not a one time install its a 1 system install so it will only install to only 1 mobo but you can reinstall as many times as you like trust me I have trying to fix problems.

Apparently the serials work with both 64bit and X86. So, get either and then download the other

You can also shift your Vista install to another PC and activate it there (phone them for an auth code) but yes you're indeed correct, you can only activate it on one PC at once if it is OEM. I have an OEM version of Vista home basic and that only runs on one, and I have a OEM version of home premium and same thing. However, as I say you can switch it using the phone thing

Ok have another problem now which is I just realised if I upgrade to 7 il lose office 2010 which was a download (legit) it was a work promo if I pay a small amount I could get office 2010 pro but ive lost the info to redownload.

Is there anything I can do other then contacting IT at work which would be more hassle then its worth.

ok so I may have solved this I used a neat little bit of software called recover keys which pulled up all my keys but the thing is I thought il test it out so I tried to install office on my lappy but it rejected the key is this cos MS can detect its installed on another computer is it maybe like an oem type thing so its ok but only on my desktop.

Any ideas.

For the 64bit system you need a CPU that supports 64bit. I hope you have it.

Huh?

Another windows 7 question I just bought a retail copy of ultimate but I was wondering if I can get away with installing it on both my desktop and my lappy.

I wouldn't try it but its your call. If it blocks it, all you have to do is call them. At least that's what I did with my Windows XP when it got blocked after installing it on ONE PC!

Didnt bother trying in the end cant be bothered with the hassle I dont use my lap[top much anymore anyway.

My CPU is an Intel QX6850 seems to be ok so far.
