Which Ultrawide ?

So I'm looking at getting an ultrawide quite soon to replace my Dell 1440P 144Hz G-Sync panel as I tried an Ultrawide for a few hours the other day in The Division and it was the sex !

I was looking at the Acer X34A but have heard an immense amount of horror stories about it from screen flicker, Lots of dead pixels, 100Hz not bring a guarantee etc...

So now I'm looking at the Asus PG348.

Any long term owners of the Asus PG348 on here ?

None of them. You will find a game you absolutely love that doesn't work properly with it and be gutted.

Get a 1440p monitor, bigger the better.

Already have a 27" 1440P 144Hz G-Sync monitor but I played on an Asus PG348 the other day which has G-Sync and 100Hz and it was fantastic and in The division ultrawide is fully supported and more and more games support it.

100 FPS on a monitor with that resolution is but a mere dream dude.

The percentage of games now that support UW is about the same as it's always been. If you are into one game that much then it may be worth it. Personally I would consider the Dell curved.

Just whatever you do don't buy an Acer. Not ever.

And use Adaptive Vsync.

Thanks for the recommendation but it doesn't have G-Sync and I quite like by variable refresh rate tech as I've gotten too use to it to not have it :p

But yeah I play The Division and WoW mainly, Both perform brilliantly with a single 1080 at 3440x1440.

TD gets with everything maxed on average of around 60FPS under DX12 and WoW gets around an average of 100FPS with eveything maxed :)

Disable Gsync and enable Adaptive Vsync globally and try it out. LMK how you get on.

I think someone might have one attached to their RRR rig

I've also heard that the Acers have improved since the first version. Ultrawides are supported out of the box far more now as far as games go and if they're not then usually there's a simple fix, whether it's in the config or you could always just play it in 16:9 mode on the monitor with the black bars down the side. 34" ultra equates to the same screen size as a 27" 1440 when you run it in 16:9 windowed.

Already have and I do notice a difference albeit a small one.

Is a small one worth another £350?

Couple of my mates have those Dell curved and love them. I would have possibly considered it but Fallout 4 is completely broken on UW. You can't pick locks or hack computers because it basically stalls if you do. Not sure if they fixed it but it also looked horrid too.

I'll consider the Dell if the money coming in doesn't clear by Wednesday as that's when the PG348Q goes back to it's full price of £1200 instead of £998.

Asus? Have they fixed the BLB issue or is it still a complete lottery?

There is a fix for it though :)

I haven't had an IPS yet that doesn't have some sort of BLB so I doubt they fixed it although they may have.

There's a trick where you press on the bezel and use a credit card or something? dunno man, pootube for it.

Just yeah, don't buy an Acer. They're dog crap in nice clothing (from a distance). I paid £600 for a 4k screen and it was TN, worst BLB ever (looked like a theatre when they put down spot lights) and had the nastiest tackiest body ever.

IPS is nice man. My HP is IPS and I like it much better.

hi there

i have the asus pg348q, had it since launch , its fantastic , almost every game i have supports 21.9 . i would never go back to 16.9 unless it was something really special.

Except on Youtube it's horrible with black bars on the side lol. Even on most streaming series as well (not Netflix and similar).

I use a Google Chrome extension that stretches any youtube video to fill the whole screen so no black bars. Takes getting use to, some videos look ok and some not so ok but its still decent lol
