Which SSD?

well ive had a kingston Hyper X for a month now maybe a little more and its been nothing but hassle with running slow and being really jumpy when watching videos. Ive had contacted Kingston about this issue and they so far have come up with nothing to fix the issue so im now looking to replace it but what with im not sure hence why im here asking you guys what your thoughts are.

i had been looking at the Corsair Force GT 240GB but i dont know if i should due to the SandForce controller.

i mainly use the pc for gaming and just normal day to day stuff

I'd say the corsair SSD your considering, I also have this SSD, but the 90GB version. I'd also look at Crucial and Samsung :)

^As above, crucial m4 and samsung 840 are good shouts but the corsair one you said is good too. Don't think there are many issues floating about with sandforce these days, from what I can tell the main bugs have been fixed. Don't quote me on it though.

Nearly all of the problems with Sandforce have been resolved, and it is now considered one of the best controllers.

I would personally get the Samsung 840 pro. It's a beast!

Crucial, Samsung, Intel, Corsair and from what I have heard sandisk and mushkin too.

They are all pretty good. Only thing I have heard really is stay away from ocz.

I'd go with samsung as well. Samsung, crucial and intel would be top 3, but samsung is better for the wallet. ;)

i've been using a 120gb force gt for about a year now... no problems what so ever.
the samsung 840 should still be cheaper.

First my vote, Samsung 840pro , just bought 2 and they're bootiful and hella fast I don't suggest getting the standard 840 drive if you can help it. I hear the memory isn't as good but that's just net-nerd-talk really. :)

Tip: Don't use norton ghost if you're going to clone your system (like samsung recommends), use Acronis true image to clone the system. Especially if you have a UEFI motherboard, Ghost does not support the EFI partitions essential to getting windows to boot on these boards...

Tip2: I'm very surprised you're getting video stutter from even a slow performing SSD as you shouldn't be getting it from a standard platter drive, so this feels like a serious issue to me?

Some troubleshooting questions (because tbh I'm interested)

Have you filled it to near-capacity? (Anything close to more than 90% usage degrades them)
is TRIM activated properly?
Have you got some crazy defragmentation settings on?
I assume you've got windows 7 on it? (any other windows doesn't handle SSD's very well in comparison)

Generally, at least I think personally I'd find it strange to store things like movies on an SSD anyway, I'd put things like that onto a Platter drive?

Some questions on the media you're playing (could be relevant)
What are you using to play the video?
What file format is it?
What resolution?
What codecs do you have installed? (if any)

Also, please don't fall for the 'Windows 8 fixes stuttering' comment/tactic that any sales reps throw at you, it's tosh :P

Sandisk has been good for me, reliable and fast. they wont charge an arm or a leg either.

edit: As above poster, stutter=/= properly functioning ssd. i would sure hope you have a warranty, stutter on that SSD means you got a baddy.

the ssd is 120gb so 110gb of free space to start with and i still have 69.5 gb free
trim is working as it should and the defrag is turned off
yes it has windows 7 on it

have tried a few players and they all did the same thing. i thought it might have been the GPU at fault but i swapped it out with an older card and it still did the same thing

it dose it with MP4 and MKV files that ive seen so far
it also plays up when watching video on the internet as well (youtube, bbc iplayer etc)

yes its only like a month old so it still has warranty but Kingston dont make that SSD anymore so can not RMA for the same drive. got offered a KC100 instead and i dont know anything about them
