Which Motherboard????

Hi All,

I am on the look out for a new/used 775 motherboard, I am looking to spend around £100-£120.

The main use of my PC is gaming, and I would like it to be scalable for future upgrades.

Does anyone have any advice on what would be the best option?

Thank you

Alex

All i can say is, that if you want a P35 board, look at the DFI DK P35,i can recommend it.

Or if you want newer, maybe it's P45 equivalent.

I've got no clue about the newer x38's and what not..

680i SLI

Seen one for a very good price......seriously considering it.

Anyone else like to share their thoughts/experiences?

Thanks

not at all future proof :( My 680i was dreadful, and generally they are known for how bad they are..

Get a P35 :)

The 680i chipset to my knowledge don't like the Yorkfield (45nm Intel Quad Core) processors.

If you have no interest in running a dual graphics card config, then,

Your best best is a P45/P35 board, here's a review of the Asus P5Q Deluxe to read:

Or a P35 board which you should be able to get pretty cheap.

Here's a roundup to read:

However if you do want to run SLi a board that comes highly recommend across the board is the EVGA 750i. It offers pretty much the same performance as the higher end 780i/790i boards and costs a good bit less.

Here's a review:

If you want Crossfire, look at an X38/X48 board. Here's a review of the Asus Maximus Formula which is pretty reasonable price wise around now:

EDIT: Another thing to bear in mind is that the release of the Core i7 CPUs from intel is due by the end of the year, so it might be worth holding on for the fact that the current intel hardware should drop in price from there on.

New or used, just under £100, 35 chipset... ABit IP35 Pro XE - no question. The glory of the IP35 Pro, but with a 1600 fsb ;)

£100+ Abit IX48 GT3.. around £140.

(fanboi ? ya)

I'd reccomend the P5Q-Pro.

P45 Chipset, Very affordable, good quality and overclocks nicely. The reviews say its godly for the price.

Depends what you want. If you are running a dual card nVidia setup, a 750i board would be the best choice (brilliant, just like the 650i). Otherwise, the ultra expensive 790i is really the only way to go, as the 780i boards are just like the 680i boards.

For ATI setups, Asus' P5Q Pro is great. If you are running a dual card ATI setup, then the X38/X48 boards would be the best route.

All I can say is.. Intel CPU.. gotta be an Intel Chipset.

nVidia chipsets are the worst to date, the 780i has got to be one of the worst known yet and the 790i Ultra isn't much further behind.. they do not like Quads at all and do NOT OC well.

My friend from another forum had an Asus Striker II on the 680i platform.. nothing past 3GHz on his Q6600 was stable. Now on an Asus Rampage X48 and he is running at 3.6GHz no problems at all (on air as well!)

I would recommend you go an Asus P5Q Pro, it is a brilliant motherboard and overclocks very nicely.

P35s are getting a bit long in the tooth now, why not go for a newer generation?

Stretch your budget a tiny bit (£12) and get this.. it is a very good motherboard and is an X38 so much better than a P35/P45 :)

That is just a link to Novatech's site, I always buy from there but you can go to the shop of your choice if you can find the same motherboard!:)
