I'm doing a kind of high end enthusiast build you could say and have come acrossed a kind of choice. Now my setup will consist of 2 gtx 590's to run 3 23 led monitors. Now I want to keep a red theme because everything I have is red... but I hear that x16 full power to both slots makes a huge difference in the multi monitor department.. my og choice was asus maximus extreme 4... but I hear otherwise... if you could help me keep in the red theme with good performance let me know. Thank you,

you know you can run 3 monitors with a single 590 right???? 2 590's isnt gonna get ya any better performance at all. Just for benchmarks and even at that point not enough to warrant the xtra cost. if your just wanting to sli get ya a couple 580's and be done and use the savings for other parts.also if you intend on dong this you will need to find a board that can support QUAD sli as thats what running 2 590's is. as stated in the first sentence."high end enthusiast build" I understand a single card can run 3 monitors. Hell an old 8800 gt can run 3 monitors. This was not my questions. And trying not to sound rude I know and understand sli 580s can run most games at max settings. But again I don't like the saying most games. And for 400 dollars more get quad sli performance I'm better off with that. Now further more I don't say max settings count until everything is as high as it can go. Including AA, now 2 590's is the best and cleanest setup to go with and not have to delve into 4 way sli 580s... so all I am asking is for information on my question. Not for which hooker will be the best bang for my buck...

nowhere in my post was I condescending to you or your question and I dont appreciate it being returned either I was merely stating a fact in order to help you in your goal for finding the motherboard you need. If I had the cash to blow I would probably try it as well. My last sentence says it all you will need a monbo that can support quad sli. Even though you are not running 4 physical cards it will see each 590 as 2 cards. Just wanted to make sure you knew that going into it so you dont buy a board that wont work.

sry my rant isnt over lol and if you are "high end enthusiast" then you should already know what board should do what. As anyone who makes that claim knows how to do thier research

all the BS aside I'm guessing your going 1366 (since you didnt say) and I'd suggest the G1 Assassin or the newer X58OC board as those are both "HIGH END ENTHUSIAST" boards

and that is only viable for 1155 so no sandy bridge. And I tried to say not being rude. And yes I have done my research as you can tell I have an understanding of full 16 bandwidth lanes and their use for multi monitor setups. I was just trying to confirm my theory.

And its more of a as long as there's two pci-e lanes.. You seen people run dual 295s back in the day on classified 3way sli boards before 4 way sli had even come out.. and you see people running two gtx 590s on sabertooths... etc... The board does not have to support physical 4way sli. IE: enough lanes to fit 4x2slot cards (4 580s). It just has to least have x8 bandwidth to two pci express 2.0 slots.. Or x16x2 or x16 x8... otherwise there would be no point in a dual gpu single slot solution. So as long as it can support sli with two cards running least x8 your fine. I don't think I know of a board that has two pci express slots on 1155 that can't run sli 590s... I am just trying to stick with a red theme here. Because with this money lol that's all you have to choose from really xD, and I want it to perform better, but my choice of the re4 comes the problem. It only supports x16 to one slot then th rest x8... which x16 to both cards is a must... esp with 590s...

And with all that aside I said I'm doing a high end enthusiast build. Never stated I was... I'm here to learn whatever it is I need to. Been into pc building awhile now. And I still have yet to learn everything. Any tips are appreciated and I do appreciate your input.

x8 or x16 doesn't really make a significant difference and if the color is a decisive aspect you should know by now that Maximus 4 is pretty much your only choice.

Besides that 2x590....way to waste money...it always amazes me what people will do for bigger e-peen.

I would appreciate it if you just gave me an answer and not some assanine comment I never asked for. I spend my money how I want to, 4500 dollars is nothing to me, I use and maintain my money to be able to enjoy these things in life. Dont complain that I'm spending money and putting it into the economy. I would appreciate it if next time you just gave the first part and not the second. Because this build is used for more then just one purpose. You not knowing what that is does not allow you to comment.

But I always hear that multiple monitor setups do cause a big drop with 8x but single monitor its just like 3-5 fps most... but I can't find the review on Google about this :/

As far as I know the only red and black mobo's that would let you run both cards in duel x16 is the X58 Asus Rampage 3's.

There's nothing on the 1155 socket in red and black that would let you do it that I know of but like Luger says, the is [font=Verdana, sans-serif, FreeSans]Maximus IV Extreme-Z [/font]coming out soon which may give you the ability to run both cards at dual x16 as long as they don't follow the design of the last Maximus board.

Hope your going to stick some pics on the forums when you've done this build as it should be something to see

i think it depends on the resolutions like 3x2560x1600 monitors would probably benefit from 16x/16x

but im not sure about 3x1920x1080

Unless I'm very much mistaken then he's listed each motherboard Nvidia have confirmed two 590's in SLI are compatible with along with the PSU's they recommend you use followed by the cases they recommend to keep those two very hot cards at decent temps. To be honest you should be thanking the man.

Never said i knew it was a i dont care if it is 16x(1) and 8x(2) if the fps drop is only 4-5, and yes thats the same review i saw, and it was only a 2-4 fps drop from multi monitor x8/x8 so im guess it would probably be a 1-3fps drop if one of those 8 get turned into a 16. BUT of course as power hungry as the 590s are...
