Which mobo?

Just a quick one - need a new mobo (The mach 1 help thread

) and I found these two:

NF7-s ver2

NF7-S2G

Both for the same price - now obviously I like the sound of twin Gigabit lan, but to be honest I'm only really concerned about the OC potential of the mem controllers - does anyone know which has the better north/southbridges?

Just a note - the chipsets are as follows:

NF7-S2g - [size=-1]nForce2 Ultra 400

NF7-s ver 2 - (if that's the NF7-S2 then the same - not sure on this though?)

The NF7-s ver2 is the one that all the top overclockers use for Athlon XP's

The other unit you are asking about might be the same with SATA or some other add-on - this will only be good if the SATA bUS is not effected by overclocking.

I guess for XP overclocking you wont buy better than what you have avaialble to you now in those two choices.

Good luck.

Cheers

the nf7-s is one of the best boards bar along with dfi for socket a overclocking, two of my friends own the abit board and i have the dfi.

I've had both DFI NF2 Ultra IIB and the Abit NF7-s v2 and I have to say I love the NF7-s v2.

It has so many options and also has tweak BIOS's available from TicTac which absolutley fly. I got my Barton 3000+ up to 3.5Ghz on one of those babies, and then sold it! HOW STUPID AM I????

Get the Abit, and flash the BIOS to a modded TicTac one, you'll be laughing!

I did exactly that - bought a shiny NF7 ver2 - plugged it into my new prommie (mach 1) and it's now sitting in the airing cupboard waiting to see if a little heat can resurrect it

Near as I can tell the s2G board is just the Deluxe version of the standard Ver2. It's got the 2Gig lan on board - I'm still ide so the Sata side's not too much of a drama - when it comes to it I'll just have to work out which channel's affected, of get a pci card!

Where can I download the TicTac bios - read good things, but not found it yet (I suppose I could always google... but...)

Well, I can confirm that I am royaly s**** - the NF7-S2G which I am getting is indeed Abit's crippled 'new' board - complete with locked multiplier - entirely defeating the whole point of getting the XP-M

Guess I'll have to send it back and get the right one - NF7-s ver2

A happy ending at last - turns out that the pants DVD I bought at the same time held up the order - swapped the S2G with an -s Ver2 at no extra cost and it'll arrive tomorrow!
