Which maker for a 8600GTS?

And the fact that you can get an 8600GTS for £140ish whereas the 7900GTX was £400ish at launch?

The 8600GTS is a mid-range card, whereas the 7900GTX was a top end card at the time

You mean 8600 right?

Iirc the drivers ant optimised for the 8600s properly yet too. And i bet that 3dMark08 or w/e is next & DX10 will show the difference in the cards.

Ok well then it differs on how you look at it. even 7900GTX's now on ebay are £160 which isnt that pricey.

I just think that the 8600 series should have at least had some half decent performance. I was wanting to get one when they came out. But id rather not DOWNGRADE just to get a hold of DX10.

8 series drivers are buggy, as my mate is always complaining about them. Especially as we both run Vista aswell.

I disagree. I have found the 8 series drivers to be amazing.

I have a couple of homemade fixes but apart from that they are awesome.

I kinda agree with why the 8600 is laking in some hardware power.

But as Kemp said it is a mid range card. ;)

Going to install it during the weekend and I will post pics and benchmarch too.

I will compare with my actual 7800GT, hopefully the 8600GTS will give me some boost.

I think vr-zone oughta state, if they haven`t already, that comparing a x6xx card with a x9xx is pretty `unfair`.

If they wanted to make a `proper` comparison, I think they should be testing a 7600 with a 8600.

That aside, any1 is free to test any card against any. Perhaps they`re looking at it from a costing pov. Just hope they appreciate the market ranges these cards are aimed at.

Now a 7900 with an 8900 (or 8800 ultra+++ if they don`t make a 8900 for years) - atleast they`re in the same category imo.
