Which LCD for my PS3 in my room (£800 and below?)

Hey guys

Im after a 1080p LCD tv for my room to play my ps3 on in super high definition

I will be sat about 2.5 - 3m away, my room isnt too dark but only have one window

I chose not to have plasma due to the risk of image burn (not good when games have huds) and the bright light "sticking" problem.

I have gradient banding so thats a no go and I want as little ghosting/image blur as possible.

So it will be used, on my wall, for games, bluray movies and freesat/sky at a later date.

Would be nice to have a bit of money left over for a hd freesat box however

Thanks

I've seen some LG's for a decent price recently. My brothers got a 1080p 40" Sony which is awesome and he got a free stand/Blu Ray player with it for £750 from Dixons I believe.

I have a 37" Toshiba which is an excellent TV for the price, although the black levels are slightly disappointing imo - colours and everything else are great but I guess I'm picky ;)

Only thing is that they are plasma meaning games with huds will produce burn in and high light levels such as explosions can leave a "mist" until the unit is turned off/changed to a television or similiar.

That's not really the case with modern Plasma's mate, it used to be but not really any more. All the modern Plasma's have technology to deal with that sort of thing.

I mean the best TV on the market is the Pioneer Kuro and that's just not an issue.

If you can get a decent quality plasma at a price you can afford, then I'd get one over an LCD if I were you.

in that case the panasonic with built in hd freesat will win hands down

I shall look into the gaming performance of this screen and decide

I was going to mention Samsung. But I think if ur budget is £800, there are better ones to get.

If the budget was £500 or so, Samsung LCD are outstanding.

I love my Samsung, but for £800 I would have bought Tosh/LG. Toshiba at the time made what was regarded the best one, cant think of the model, and LG I`ve seen close up and they`re tremendous.

£1000+, I may well be looking at Sony. Some awesome ones in work.

Nah not really. Samsung's are good but the recent models have been a little style over substance.

Big time.... My girlfriends family bought a 52" Samsung Plasma. Wasn't an expensive one but not quite the cheapest either and boy does it suffer from image burn within minutes. It goes again over time but it's just not good enough really.

I try not to stick to branded names. Nearly all major manufacturers have been releasing there TV's OEM to increase sales. On ebuyer you'll get manufacturers like Elonex and Vistron. These are rebranded Samsung and LG TV's but for a fraction of the price. I know you mentioned screen burn, however this would the least of your worries with a plasma in a small room. I had the unfortunate experience of having to move into my parents house after a split with my ex. I took my 42 inch LG Plasma with me. There were 4 inches from the tv to the double bed and if you had a waist greater then 32 inches you werent getting in the room. I have NEVER sweated so much as I did the 3 months I was in there....middle of winter...snowing...and I had a tan like i'd spent winter in the carribean.

Check some of the user reviews on ebuyer, you may even have enough left over for a decent 5.1 dts setup :D

Ya see, it's BOTH the panel and the engines that make the difference with a TV and most cheaper brands just don't do the panels justice at all. If you're careful and pick the right one then you'll be lucky but if you want quality and not to gradually get more annoyed at some slight niggles with your TV then I'd deffo pick a decent brand.

I've had a few of the 'lesser' branded displays with Samsung or LG screens and the quality really is in a different league. I believe it can be a false economy

some of the rebranded models still have the engine...check av forums...the elonex 50" plasma has a remote hack to unlock the engine settings within the sub menu...but your right some of the cheaper makes only have the panel...however some..like the sense range...are basically the samsung pebble range with all features enabled....so you just need to do your reearch av forums is a good source for finding out which cheap one are good buys and which ones to avoid

Yeah I know all that, it's just some people manufacturers have a habit of changing their models for no reason without letting people know ;)

At least with the big brands you can be guaranteed ur getting what your paying for

£1000+ and you may be looking at a Sony? Rubbish mate :)

I got a Sony KLD40V4000 (downstairs) and it is a fantastic tele! We have had it for about three months now and still loving it. Yes, it is 40" which may be a bit big for your room, although at £600 - £650 I'd seriously recommend it!

Meh, u have to be in a position to look at them side by side watching HD ;) Seperately they look soooper.

My brothers Sony seriously rocks, it's better than my 37" Tosh, which is decent in it's own right.
