Hey all.

I have a Dg834GT 1skuks router.

It came with a Sky package.

I did flash it to a standard Netgear firmware but never actually used it.

Can you suggest a good firmware to flash it to for use with ID Net.

Many thanks

LLU: O2

Any other: Idnet

I can call suppport, FREE, know the names of those on support (simon and miriam especially) and get out of hours support and i dont think iv had "downtime" the whole two years iv been with them

Im on £25 a month, max with 30gb TRUE no throttling or shaping

That is not a very good price TBH. :(

I am on Sky for like a fiver top speed my house can get with a 40 limit. But meh.

And I would recommend sticking to the Netgear firmware for IDNet. ;)

Price over customer support? IDNET are the best customer support bar none. for Sky you'd have to have phone + TV to get a nice deal, which I highly doubt you (personally) pay for?

As for a router: I'd get a Draytek or USR as Llwyd said, if you have the cash. You're netgear will still probably do the trick tho.

TBH you only need a sky tv package, we already had sky on a £21 per month everything except the movies + sport when i had pipex so moving to sky 16mb ( i actually only get 14mb ) for £10 nearly 2 years ago was a bargain, And i have never been throttled or capped.

If you know a little about adsl you will be ok, so why would you need good customer support when nothing has ever gone wrong.

I am not loyal to any isp if a better deal came up i would switch but as of yet there is no better deal than 16mb adsl2 for £10 with no caps or throttling.

I even had simon (co-owner of idnet) calling me back within 30 mins of reporting drop outs

After being with talktalk broadband and suffering nothin but crap internet, im staying with idnet

never been happier with a company (can cancel at any point too with monthly contract)

You are correct I don't pay for it. But IF I wanted TV, Phone and Internet for a good price SKY is the place to go. To be honest, If I was paying I would go somewhere else since I don't watch anything on SKY TV anyway. :)

Is see your point, but if virgin were in my area id be inclined to try their tv/phone etc. package

sky has 70% crap, 20% repeats and 10% of stuff worth watching on three or so channels

idnet power overclock3d :)

Virgin is appealing though my boss has it and has had three of there modems burn out on him.

Granted they were all replaced within 24 hours but i wouldn't like the kit turnover, though this could be an isolated incident.

If and when they come to my neck of the woods or i move to an area thats already plugged up i will look into it.

On the router side i have tried to flash the firmware again but it refuses to do so from a Vista machine. Going to build an XP virtual pc on my workstation today and get flashing.

Hi guys, seeing as we're talking about internet, im with bethere.co.uk. AMAZING¬¬ i download a movie in about 5 min, and upload about 3gb a day, When i had a tidy rig i was uploading about 20gb a day and downloading a hell of a lot more...

Just thought i would post up my results.

Just popped the router on and this is what i got.

would there be any way to improve it further.

Dont get me wrong i am very happy that moving from one side of town to the other has given me a 3meg increase in speed and lowered my pings by well over 100ms!!
