Which i7 or Xeon?

Hi huys selling my Xeon w3520 and I am thinking i7-950, i7-960 or Xeon E5649 6 core 2.53.

Is the performance of a slower hexa core gonna whup quad hiny or will a 950/960 suffice?

depends on what you do. The quad core will most likely do better than the Xeon because games dont use 6 cores yet.

If you want a hexcore cpu,i7-970 will give better performance.The other you mentioned,will give you none or very little increase in performance.

But within a month BD is to be released.They come with 6 or 8 native cores and i have a gut feeling,they will be fast.

You could also go SB i5-2500k,i7-2600k.

if you have the money to buy a xeon 5649 i would suggest that you save a little and buy a i7-970 which is also a hex core, but you can clock it much higher. also as its been said it depends on what u are going to use it for, but since you had a xeon before, i guess you do use a lot of cpu intensive programs.

As for suggesting a SB chip... if you're just gaming then the amount you save would be worth it, but then again since you have a 1366 platform i assume you wouldn't want to buy a new mobo/ram etc.

so yea, my 2cents are get a i7-970

Ah Bulldozer will i build when the come out i will have to sell my beloved or bits of it anyways, i ask about the E5649 as i might be able to get one cheap and if overclocked to near 4ghz it should be ok it is an ES A0 also. Yep i gotta utilize my x58.
