Which graphics card should I get.

I am wanting to buy a Graphics card for my christmas present and birthday, but didn't know exactly which card i should get. My two choices where going to be the EVGA gtx 680 Classified 4GB or the EVGA 680 FTW version. Can anyone make some other suggestions the budget is £480 and i would prefer it to be an Nvidia card because I know them and I like their drivers.

At which resolution do you game? Do you plan to water cool the card?, otherwise get one with a custom cooler, something like the Asus GTX-680 DirectCU II or the MSI GTX-680 Twin Frozr

This two recommendations are really good, I see you were looking into a 4gb version of the card, which resolution do you plan to be playing on?

i think there is an msi lightning edition. get that one. or the direct cu II

at the moment i'm playing on a 1080p monitor that is crappy but next year i hop get a much higher resolution monitor like a dell ultrasharp 27 inch. The temps of the two cards i suggested were fine at max and don't bother me that much inless i'm overcloking my gpu which i have done on the 560ti for a test. I did look at the msi lighting but didn't like the look nor the flimsyness of the frame. although the twin frozr 2 did look esspecially cool. I do knwo that a 4gb gpu is better for higher resolutions but does it really warrant £100 more.

Are there any other more obscure 4gb gtx 680 cardsa around that don't break the bank.

Does anyone think the 700 series will be anything like the 600 series was to the 500 series. I would like to here your opinions

I didn't suggest the custom coolers because of the temps but because of the noise. What's flimsy about the frame? and come, on why would it need to be built better, it's just there to make the card prettier?

An overclocked GTX 670 is just as fast (in some cases faster) than a 680 and saves you a fair amount of money. They also come in 4GB variants if you want to game on high resolutions. If you want to watercool them, look for an EVGA card as cards like the 670 FTW use a 680 pcb, which makes them compatible with a couple of 680 waterblocks (do your research though).

We can't see the future, so we can't predict what next gen gear will be like but new hardware comes out all the time and if you want the latest of the latest, you'll always keep waiting.

Its not that it looks flimsy its just i would prefer a card with a full shroud for lan events and when i'm taking my computer to a friends house. There are alot of pot holes where i live and once had a previos 560 ti which bent because it was an open shroud. Plus shrouded cards look nicer to me (not over the top just simple and stylish.

An overcloked 670 is better then a reference 680 but an overcloked 680 is better then an overcloked 670. in some cases a 670 is better in benchmarks but i would leave that to a mistake zone

i think i have chosen to go with the EVGA GTX 680 Classified because of the 4GB of memory which will come in handy when i come to upgrade by monitor to something with much higher resolutions
