Hi everyone. my max budget is £300 and am looking for a graphics card. any and all advice would be welcome, contenders at the mo are the rx 480, the rx fury and the rx 390. Low TDP and quietness are 2 important factors for me. would really appreciate any other suggestions. check my cpuz validation for specs and im using a Corsair cx750m PSU. thanks guys. :)

So your options are RX480, RX390 or GTX1060.. here are the contenders I've narrowed down using PC Partpicker.

To be fair there isn't a lot between them gaming wise, but my personal choices would be between the Sapphire RX480 Nitro+ or a Zotac GTX1060 AMP! Edition.

tho the r9 fury is a better spec it draws a lot of wattage and ill be running at 1080p untill funds allow me to upgrade monitor to a 1440p model. so im looking for a card the will allow all the eye candy and good fps for a 1440p monitor (future proofing). love the look of the Sapphire RX480 Nitro+ and also the msi rx 480 gaming x ( both 8gb models). is there a big difference between these two ? .this will be an important decision for me as personally £300 budget is a lot of wonga .ps ill be playing games like GTA V and latest doom so need a card with some oomph to be able to run with all the lovely ultra settings enabled. :)

Sapphire RX480 Nitro+:

MSI
Radeon RX 480 Gaming X :

I have so far only researched the above 2 cards and tho the Nitro+ is a tad faster the MSI has a low 150watt TDP and is virtually silent when gamming thanks to its twin frozr cooling solution :)

If you want it quiet then yes the MSI would be more suitable.

Thought if your just gaming and dont care much for upgradability or DX12 support then go for the 1060. Unless of course tou are willing to go second hand and grab something like a 980ti as suggested.

I've been looking at a few gtx 1060 cards and TDP is excellent, around 120 TDP at load, and gaming benchmarks are higher than the Rx 480.. MSI 1060 gaming x looks good as well and comes with a backplate. Hmmmm.. decisions. Decisions.

A well clocked 480 will edge out the 1060. Whilst the 1060 may have a slight edge now it won't when the switch to DX12 happens and you said you wanted it for a while.

been looking at lots of comparative gaming benchmark tests between the RX 480, the GTX 1060 and the R9 390x. in nearly all instances using DX 11 the 1060 is the way to go until DX 12 becomes the "norm". so im nearly at a decision, lol, and will keep you posted on my final choice.edit....saying that "a good RX 480 with an overclock would be on par with a 1060 and run rings around it on DX 12 games". :) but as Kushiro mentioned a 1060 can overclock as well.

this 1060 is the fastest out of the box:

Personally I would buy a fury as you can get a Sapphire Fury Nitro for £300 but that would be my choice. Seeing as you want to have it for a good few years you can be sure that AMD will have driver support :)

This is also true. At 1080p a Fury would be fine.

I still say 980ti SH though. Saw a Windforce go for £270 yesterday and that was expensive.

Just letting you know it's not a low TDP card like you wanted, but other than that at 1080p it's far more than enough. 1440p will do good too. I personally run a 480 for 1440 and it keeps me happy. Anything more powerful than the 480 makes you golden :)

The Fury nitro is an awesome card. Very quiet too.

Its performance at 1080p isnt great. Its more suited for 1440+. The vram is also rather minuscule for anything above 1440 or similar. Would also dump quite a bit of heat into your case. So keep these in mind.

Personally I would just get the 480 or 1070 from nVidia if budget allowed. If your looking at second hand, a 980ti would be a better buy.

He doesn't want to buy a used card and I kind of understand that tbh. I've had some really crap cards in the past. One of the Fury X I bought was second hand and it shows you just how ham fisted and clumsy some people can be. It was covered in thermal grease, gouged and scratched and inevitably blew up (literally the VRMs caught fire) two days after I sold it.

I've had a baked 8800 Ultra with no thermal pads (just paste oozing out of it where he tried to paste the memory chips) and so on.

Out of all of his options I personally would go with the XFX Fury. The Nitro has sold out, but tbh they both have the same sort of cooling config and neither can really be overclocked any way. Yes, the Fury line are not so good at 1080p in DX11 but in Vulkan and DX12 they fare far better and let's face it, it'll kick the living crap out of a 480 even at 1080p.

I've still got a Fury X paired up with a 8 core Ivy ES. If you want any benchmarks run on it I'm quite happy to oblige, so long as it does not conflict with my modding time :)

Thanks everyone for taking time out and helping me with your suggestions and comments. I'm leaning towards the fury ATM (high TDP I know) and tho it might dump heat into the case this shouldn't be a problem as my corsair 400C is very well ventilated with good airflow and my corsair h80i is positioned at front of case as an intake so will not be blowing hot air across the radiator.
