Hi

Firstly i want to say sorry for the noobish post, but i have only ever seen one DFI board per generation i.e DFI infinity, DFI NF4, but i want to move to 939 NF4 and get a new opteron 144 cpu, but i dont know which baord is right for me even thou i have tired reading the specs, and check out he DFI forum.

I mainly want single x800 gto2 which i will watercool, im not really interested in a duel SLi as i dont like nvidia gfx cards, however i do want some new harddrives and would like NCQ, could someone quickly maybe breif me on the difference betweens the baords???

Also i want the one with the least amount of porblems if possible :)

Once again sorry for silly post i hav been away for a long time and have never really needed to upgrade from my mobile A64+ NF3 set up.

Okay,

Well you are in a good position right now as you can choose crossfire or SLI as both will accept Opteron skt939 CPU's.

The NF4 DFI offering with the is a well seasoned now and as such with current BIOS they are pretty reliable and tasty boards to have. The DFI NF4 SLI-DR offering has RAID SATA2 and NCQ support which is great for using the latst hard drives with the latest technologies.

The RDX200 has just come out so reliability or issues are realtively unknown - but it's fast, flexible and very overclockable. It only has SATA 1 support and no support for NCQ so you will not benefit from the latest hard disk technologies.

Both have great BIOS and voltage options (the best in the market right now).

For me having experienced all the birth problems of SLI motherboards (ASUS and DFI) I would stick with the seasoned NF4 rather than the RDX - there is one for sale in our for sale thread.

If you want to have crossfire NOW then go RDX but if you are happy with SLI then the NF4 is a safer bet.

Thre is a revised DFI crossfire board due out February 2006 which will have all the latest hardware support (SATA2, NCQ etc....) might be worth waiting 'til then if ATI is your thing?

Hi

Thx for the very informative post, if ati is my thing, well yes, i had both ati x800's and nvidia and i couldnt get use to the nvidia style drivers so stuck with ati.

I am leaning towards the DFI board and wanted to ask, is it only the sli dr that supports sata 2 and NQC???

PS if there is one on sale sadly i cant view it my post count is too low ><

Sorry mate - you have to move fast in this arena - sold already.

Yes, of the ATI and Nvidia boards by DFI only the NF4 units supports SATA2 and NCQ - look out for a new ATI revision of the DFI board in February next year.

However thx for the advise since i wont be getting sli nvidia cards,i guess the normal ultra D will be fine for me, now im off to find some nice Hd...

lol, ur system isnt exactly slow is it...i mean mine is definatly nothing to post about. Just post ideas and any overclocking results you obtain. It might not be a new world record but we will listen :)

hmmm. dual GPUs are not a worry tbh. Also, NCQ as far as i know comes with SATA2 natively - so look for SATA2 or 3GB/s sata ports.

Though, i can't quite understand how a socket 940 opteron cpu would fit in a DFI socket 939 board if you want a new opteron 144?????

Am i being dumb or missing the obvious - is there a opteron 144 for socket 939 rather than 940 (which is still different from M2).

There are now skt939 opterons available.
