My Freind has a E8400 and he is having issues with compatibility with his board

i have a Q6600 and he has asked if it is possible to do a swap

my question is whitch is better

i am currenty useing vista x64 with 4gb of ram and it flys with the quad will it be the same with the other cpu? or slower

U really should not get compatibility issues with a CPU, both socket 775!!

Get him to update his bios.

Have you OC'd ur 6600? If your still running stock 2.4 then a 3GHz CPU may be better for you.

It depends on what apps you are running since many things are still not fully optimized for running on all four cores so dual core could suit you.

Give it a try mate. Though i would check that he has not fried the CPU, Prime stable etc would be a good test

he has updated the bios

the issue is it dosnt reconise the cpu

it itermitantly boots if the correct specs are set in th bios

i could always swapit on the terms that if it dont work we swap back

i can get an e8400 at 4.1 on air! that is gonna yeild better performance in games. but he may have a faulty chip, or something is up with his mobo.

Try the CPU in your motherboard first to make sure it isn't a CPU problem.

If the Q6600 works in his machine.. I wouldn't swap because it means you're going to have to get another Quad later on.. I would keep your Q6600!

Even though a 4GHz E8400 will yield better speeds.. a 3.6GHz Quad is still the better option IMHO!

i think that i will go with the e8400 to help my friend out if it dost work i can swap back so no loss

the advantage of going to the e8400 E0 it will force me to upgrade later on when applications start taking advantage of quads ;)

E8000's are lush. Easily clockable to 4Ghz and beyond they absolutely fly in games. Unless you mainly use your machine for video encoding, 3D graphics rendering and the like I would swap.
