HIS Hightech Radeon X1600XT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 IceQ Turbo CrossFire Supported Video Card

or..

eVGA e-Geforce 7600 GT KO PCI express 256MB GDDR3 Video Card w/HDTV

i have only used nvidia will i be happy with the ati?

thanks for your help again from urs truly newbie

7600GT all the way man. I reccomend this one though, as it has a Dual-Slot cooler that exhuasts out the back of the case. It also features a custom PCB, different from the reference one, and the card is known to overclock much better than other ones. Good luck ;)

EDIT: Also has heatpipes :D

The 7600GT is a very very nice card for the price. I would say it's the best card in it's price class and if you were to pick up the one that Nick suggested you would be a happy camper. CoD2 is a pretty gfx intense game however, what size monitor and at what resolution / detail are you wanting to play at? I know that I couldnt play it on my rig at my native resolution of 2560x1600 w/ full detail and all settings maxed on a pair of heavily overclocked 7800GTX's. Just some food for thought if you have a largish monitor.

Another vote for the Nvidea side.

You really don't want to endure ATIs drivers...

Ohh c'mon they aren't thaaaat bad :p

I'll tell ya what, Appl did a good job making their own set of windows drivers for the x1600 in the macbook pro. They're glitch free and the card runs like a raped ape.

I downloaded the new CoD2 demo for Mac this moning and wow, it runs so fluently! I may just have to buy it :)

id go with nv to but id look to get a evga cost little more but killer warranty my 6800 died and they replaced it free and you can put on aftermarket coolers and artic silver without voiding warranty.

its little higher but with rebate a killer deal.

I was never impressed with my eVGA vid cards, and I've had about 6 of them. They never seem to clock as well as other brands. The brand I've had the most luck with is Leadtek, they make some solid ass video cards. They overclock like nuts and I have never had one die on me. BFG would be my 2nd favorite brand then followed by XFX more than likely.

Yep and done two reviews of 'em chap ;)

well i use a dell 19' LDC. the evga 7600GT i found for 163 w/ a 30mir. the ati at newegg goes for 140 with a 10mir. so... the price is about the same and the reviews are much better on the 7600GT on newegg than the 1600. well just thought id ask. thanks

EVGA might not clock as high but i will take one when you get lifetime warranty and can change stuff without voiding the warranty.

I'm in total agreeance with that, they have an outstanding warranty and return policy.

Do you mean use a aftermaket cooler? I never on company allows this without voiding your warranty but wasn't sure if it was eVGA or BFG. Doesn't eVGA also alow OC'ing without voiding your warranty?

Not sure about that but it's quite possible considering the other allowance they have provisioned for their cards. I mean, why would you put on an aftermarket hsf if you weren't trying to cool it better for some mad overclocking? Other than putting something silent on it for an extreme quiet rig I suppose...

ya their warranty covers all but direct phsyical damage. My card had a modded bios i was pushing more voltage and core memory clock. and i had took the cooler off and put on as5. They replaced it no questions and shiped it back 2 day delivery.

If only it was applicable outside the UK :(

Great warranty tho

BFG's lifetime and XFX's double lifetime (one for you and one for the person you sell it on to) is also awesome :)

Save alot of money and get the 7300GT with the DDR3 memory. I dont know if many of you have seen this as they are hard to get but they get better performance than a 7600gt when overclocked I am sure I read somewhere they use the same core as a 7900gt just with a few pipelines locked.

7300GT DDR3 256MB Here

Seriously they are going mad for them around other forums like OcUK.

Here

I would definatly buy one if I was you.

The 7300GT is a dumbed down 7600GT.

For a little bit more then the 7600GT and x1600 you can get an x1800GTO, very nice cards for the money, plus with a little OCing you can get ~7800GT/GTX levels in 3D mark
