Which 939 Mobo

Hi all

I currently have A MSI Mobo Neo2 Plat , to my understanding this mobo is not great for the Mach II for two reasons, for one the cpu placement is not great meaning it is set too low and it my cause you to bend the mach II lead in order to shut the side panel and another is the mobo does not like the sub zero temps which my cause boot problems, the above faults are quiet serious so I am looking at an upgrade and was wondering what Amd64 939 mobo's you use or recommend

Firstly the sub-zero bug is cured with the latest bois's, so no problem there, and was only with winchesters...

Second...well you're right it is awkward placement, they shoulda thought that one through for us :D

The only other board in NF3 AGP (if that's what you want) is gigabyte's kannxp-939(or whatever the code is for that one), and that's one that's had some mixed up reviews for clocking, but those that have mastered it say it's one of the best clockers...

If you're ready for pci-e, the DFI is turning out to be great...

The bios update, is this from the MSI site or is it a modded previous release, opps sorry yes I do need an AGP Mobo , I will have a look at the gigabyte Mobo thanks for the feed back

anyone else :P

The Neo is the best of the agp NF3 mobo's I had one under my prom yeah the suction tube gets a little bent even with the dfi that I have now it bends the tube but as long as you are gentle with it when fitting and removing it will be fine :)

If you want my advice run away from the gigabyte motherboard VERY FAST, ive got one and run it in my LS. I had to RMA the first one i had as it would only boot without hanging one in 3 times.

This board refuses to run dual channel with any of the 3 sets of ram i have tried (and a mate of mine with it cant run dual channel either). The Vcore fluctuates way too much under load, a Vcore mod is a must, i hav set my Vcore to 1.7V in BIOS, but when i reach windows, about 2 in 5 times it is back at 1.5V, even though if i check in BIOS it is still set at 1.7V, meaning i have to continually reboot until i get the correct Vcore.

With my LS the socket is placed so that the hose presses lightly against the side of the case, and IIRC the Mach's have a longer hose, so i doubt it will help you in the closing the case prolem.

You maybe lucky with your gigabyte and get one that clocks well, but from my experience i would never advise someone to use this board, i hate it.

Im considering changing to a MSI board but need to find some money, there is no way i can sell on this gigabyte as it's so useless.

Okay,

I am using DFI SLI DR MOBO and with the latest BIOS it runs like a champ.

NF4 is the way to go for future proofing - even if its not SLI.

The DFI has a great layout and a cathedral of overclocking features - seems to be the weapon of choice for most gamers/enthusiasts.

I had load of issues with the ASUS SLI mobo although it's has the best SLI layout around it's not the best for overclocking and squeezing the best out of your A64.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

The AGP problem soon goes away if you sell you AGP card on ebay and re-invest in a PCI-E unit :D

Thats exactly what I did, sold my GT AGP on ebay for £285 and spent an extra £20 on the PCI-E version - of course thats not strictly true as I purchased two units for full SLI.

U can normally get a card of similar ilk to the one you have for that type of extra cash - so is it me now???

Personally, I can't see the point of investing in a MOBO that will be very shortly made obsolete in preference to PCI-E unless your budget really is the liniting factor - wasn't thats what ebay is for?

Anyhow good luck my friend, I have heard good things about the abit av8 and of course the lanparty NF3 MOBO is supposedly the puppies privates.

Cheers

I have done that twice today - I must be reading every other line or something???

Tnx for the correction friend.

BTW: I know nothing of the s754 MOBO's sorry to have intruded on something I know nothing about :o

There was a post somewhere (cant find it though) that states DFI are gonna do NF4 for 754 as well as the current 939's.

For skt 939 take the PCI-E plunge, sell the AGP and get a package that will do you proud for months to come.

If it wasn't single channel, I'd probably keep the rig I have now, but it holds ya back...

On the plus side, the FX-55 will be with me by the end of the week, along with the new ram and the MSI Neo2, already here...

Sticking on topic tho, there's some great info on tweaking up your Neo2 over on extreme's forum, and if you plan to stay with agp on 939, it's about the best mobo to work with...

I'd agree, after seeing the insane clocks, that the DFI NF4 board is definitely worth selling up to pci-e for...

ok, i dont care if people are gonna say why agp? go pci-e i cant afford to at all, im being funded via parents for food at the moment while at uni. But i have just had to buy a replacemnet board and i've ordered the MSI K8N neo2. I am just interested in knowing, how difficult is it to actually fit a mach 2 on this board? (ps, my perspex case is slightly wider than normal cases i think).

Well fitting it is easy enough, you might have a problem getting the case side on as the socke is quite low so the hose sticks out a bit.

You might be ok with your wider than usual case though, just have to wait and see i guess.

Please let us know how you get on with the motherboard, i might go for one myself as my gigabyte is such a POS and im saving for uni which means my fund are very limited (and i just bought an AGP 6800GT so dont really want to change)
