I've got my new PC build just waiting for me to press buy now:)

My only prob is the price of descent DDR3 memory. I know this topic has prob been brought up a 1000 times but after mucho searchio on the net, I can't seem to find out a basic time as to when prices are expected to fall.

The current RAM I have waiting to buy is:

Corsair Dominator Memory 2GBKIT (2X1GB) 1800MHZ DDR3 CL7 @£248.00

As you will see from the rest of the kit (as below) I want to put some pretty sharp RAM in this baby to get full potential.

New Build:

CoolerMaster 1000W REAL POWER PRO MODULAR PSU

Corsair Dominator Memory 2GBKIT (2X1GB) 1800MHZ DDR3 CL7

CoolerMaster BLACK ATX COSMOS S CASE

MSI GeForce 9800GX2 1GB GDDR3 PCIE 2xDVI HDMI 600/2GHZ

Asustek STRIKER EXTREME II S775 nForce 790i ATX

Intel QUAD Core 2 Extreme QX9650 3GHz 12MB 1333MHz

:yumyum:

And noooo I've not just won the lottery:D. I've saved up for this baby.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated

It sounds like you have your mind set on DDR3 so I wont try to convince you otherwise...but keep in mind...there are transition motherboards out there that offer both DDR2 and DDR3 support...and since 4gb of DDR2 is dirt cheap nowadays it might not be a bad idea to invest now and upgrade later.

Thanks for the replies.

I can't say I have set my mind on DDR3 but it's soon to be the RAM of choice and would a "Dual-RAM" mobo not be compromised on speed?

I'd love to get 4GB but is the upgrade in quantity better than the speed?

I know CAS Latency isn't as big a thing with DDR3 as much as the clock speeds.

(For someone who hasn't set his mind on DDR3, I'm not doing much of an unconvincing job:p)

Nice review of the RAM and yet again my decision is swayed. Surely I'm not going to see much of a performance difference from 1600 to 1800MHZ:rolleyes:

JUst to throw another question into the equation:eek: Why is DDR3 RAM soooo hard to get hold off?

I've always bought ASUS mobo's. I've never had a prob with them so I guess I'm sticking with what I know.

Just thought I'd add that.

What made me get the ocz 1600 was the ability to clock up to 2ghz without issue. Seems more bang/buck in my opinion. Do the asus boards have better features/support than the rest? (just away to order my mobo today!)

Can't really say. I've trusted ASUS from my humble beginnings of PC building all 16yrs ago.

Certainly gonna have a re-think about the RAM (I'm sticking DDR3). I picked the Corsair cause once again I'm a stickler for staying with a brand once I find it reliable. I've never used OCZ but you have to start somewhere.

Many thnx to all that replied.
