What's your audio setup?

Do we have any lovers of music amongst us?

Personally I love listening to music. I am partial to a little bit of everything, but mainly rock.

I decided to invest in a good soundcard and headphones last year so I ended up with the Asus Xonar D2 and Goldring DR-150s. A match made in heaven.

I listen to all my music in foobar2000 with a few plugins. ASIO has the biggest effect by bypassing windows and sending the signal straight to the soundcard.

Enough about me, what about everyone else? :)

Creative Cambridge Soundworks DTT 5.1. Either through XFi, Prelude or Realtek onboard (really isn't any difference unless u plan to molest the playback)

Guitar tracks of the bestest guitarists are my fave. Run alot of rap and rock tracks.

Funnily enough, vlc gets used alot. Spent the last week or so listening to SexPistols.

Most of my playback is similar to podcasts of cbs radio.

Onboard sound with optical out, which sounds great tbh, although I am going to grab a decent soundcard soon.

Denon AVR-1909 AV Receiver (True HD/DTS-MA HD)

Mordaunt Short speakers as following:

906i fronts

905i centre

903i bipole rears

For late at night - Sennheiser HD555's

I will post pics when I've got everything in my AV/PC room sorted :)

I make music but no to a high level :P and don't really have the money, so I use this xtreme music sound card from creative to some creative 7.1 surround speakers, or for optical and RCA output, I use the behringer UCA202 USB sound device. Usually use ASIO drivers. It's not the best but it'll do.

on board sound, and a roland headphone, actually i use the headphone to play guitar when is at night, but most of the time its on my pc.

i listen hard rock (old ones) some old school metal (judas priest etc) and alot of metal from nowadays, also any music that has good instrumental i will give a try aswell.

Onboard realtek sound -> Sony 2x60w amplifier HCD-GPX7 -> 2x100w Sony speaker SS-CGPX7

Of course completely unknown amplifier/speaker set :+ Shamelessly stolen from google:

Creative X-Fi of some kind (the gold one from a while ago) and some Z5500, I do love my music (metal, rock, industrial, drum and bass, prog, some rap and dance, anything but pop and that really bad dance music).

I haven't got my headphones for my guitar yet (was gonna get some Sennheiser 515s) so I just play through the big noisy speaker late at night instead

anyone got an idea to make switching to headphones easier? I was thinking of a 3.5mm to 3.5mm extention cable?

I use winamp

Sound card that came with my motherboard and some Logitech Speakers,

I'm not so fussy about sound. Sennheiser PC151's for when gaming. Until I actually experience what makes having a decent sound setup so much better than what I've currently got I'll most likely be staying this way :D

I use XMPlay as my media player. Just like winamp sort of because it accepts the same plugins.

I don't like listening to audio from my PC much, unless I am in the office and am in the mood. In our living room we have a Linn Majik audio system and it is a superb setup. It should be seeing as it cost us a small fortune.

On my gaming rig, I have just onboard sound from my P5Q, with a bog standard 2 speaker setup. As the PC is upstairs in the spare room, it's not often I get to blast music or game audio out due to the kids, so I just use a pair of standard Sony headphones. I have tried the more expensive headphones, but too much raving when I was younger means I can't tell much difference from one set to another :D.

I've got a headphone amp with 4 outputs, might be able to wire it up to do what you want.

Plug the output from ur PC into the Headphone Amp.

Headphones into one of the outputs

Speakers into another.

It has seperate volume controls for each channel.

Probs need various wires/adapters to get it to do what you want but it "should" do it. :)

asus supremeFXII card that came with striker II (surprisingly good)

I do also have a pair of Technics SL-1210 MK2's in the attic with Ortofon needles and Technics slip mats, but they've not seen the light of day in about 3 years now :(

Well the speakers atm go to the digital 3.5mm output on the card and headphones go into the "green one" which is right next to it.

I cant have both in at the same time as there isnt enough clearance, so i think the extention might jsut work

nothing wrong with that :D

Now this thread has got me thinking about these amp things and audio setups. Where does a sound newbie start? Any guides or things that help you understand whats what, whats good etc?

@ Jim - Considered parting with the 1210's? :D

NEVER! They've held their value pretty well for 6 years so far. I reckon another 6-12 should be fine :p
