whats the soundcard out of these

What, of course volume control works in games. On the rare occasion it doesn't you can alt-tab.

i was thinking on getting a new keyboard with a volume knob on it lol knob (always makes me laugh when i have to say that) anyway it might make it easier for me yip might do that lol

I do love the volume control of my G710+.

Anyway, you can easily make function keys work as media keys. I used to have F8-F12 for that purpose.

This software might be rather handy as well.

i wouldn't get an inline volume controller for the cans mate just setup a volume + volume - key on your keyboard

yeah i thought so i looked around and to be honest could not find any that looked good quality so i will use my keyboard just been messing about and it has worked in all my games so far

it must have been a long time when it was not perfected or something

i have mainly been using gaming headsets with an in line volume for years

obliviously times has changed a lot

Surround don't bother me I just use headphones
It will be a bonus just for future reference but I don't think I will go to even 5.1 lollol

Looks cool tho

Thanks for the advice

You only have 2 ears.. you have 2 headphone cups. You only a 2.0 set-up to hear everything anyways Surround sound headphones/sets all use virtual surround anyway.

This is very true unless you have a 5.1 amp with proper decoding
But I love stereo and that's all I will ever really need

And I also love my music as well double bonus to me

Surround speaker set is a very good option, but an expensive one. Expect to spend around 1k€ for a decent one.

Anyway, completely disregard all "5.1" headphones. It's simply a marketing gimmick. Games provide directional sound to some extent and the Essence STX has dolby headphone support, which emulates surround sound and it works really well. Though it does have tendency of making high frequencies sound muddy etc.

Anyway, like I said on the previous page DT-770s and AKG K-701s are in your price range and both are bloody good headphones, yet completely different in nature.

Not true, the advertised 5.1 sets have separate drivers for front/back/centre and often times a sub. Sets that use virtualisation (i.e using headphone instead of a heatset) use 2 speakers and use binaural audio to change the way the sound, sounds to simulate how it would sound behind/infront of you.

5.1 sets have the fade-between of the drivers are are not as effective as using virtualised surround.

With the essence STX you can turn it all the way up to 7.1 virtual and it will simulate this better than any headset you'll find with all the extra drivers in

Thing is though that for a PC usage you won't need that. 2.0 will easily take care of you.

Do what is best for you in the end.

For gaming you want surround virtualisation ON otherwise you're at a major disadvantage.

As a user of this who has tested against Triton 5.1 headset and the Razer megalodon 7.1 usb headset (which is properly crap). The essence has delivered some of the best sound from games without changing it or making it muddy, the close, medium, far options for dolby 7.1 give you lots of options to change the feel of the sound, but even with that OFF games sound utterly superb. Pin sharp and accurate sound location in both direction and distance.

he can't really go wrong with either, I picked AKG's due to the better positional audio and open back design and I don't regret it for a second :)

I guess the muddiness of the sound is caused by the fact that I got a cheapo Xonar DX. ;)

I've not tried that card so I couldn't tell you.
I've tried Auzen X-Fi Prelude (pci)
X-Fi Titanium Fatality (only because I needed a pci-express x-fi and that was all you could buy)
and now the Essence STX, I regret nothing :)

i do have an onkyo 601 amp with kef 2005.3 speaker kit its about £1200 worth of surround sound but i only use it for blu-ray movies i have has my pc go true it with the hdmi from the gpu and is sounds great but i just did not use it much

this is why i just want to go for the best sound card and headphones
i just cant wait till i get my new stuff now ahhh just have to wait a while now

nice :) I've got a rather nice Pioneer 7.1 amp with a full set of KEF 7.1 speakers for it! I did hook up the pc to it via analogue a few years back.. jeeeeesus was that good for gaming.

I tend to use my home theatre amp even for headphones, since it has a decent headphone amp. Of course that requires the amp to be nearby. :-p

nice setup if your amp has hdmi input try you gpu straight to the amp and you should be able to get a 7.1 dts i think

the amp is close by so its always an option as well lol

Unfortunately, the amp only does hdmi passthrough and doesn't process any audio via that. Which I was freaking gutted about, it's on my planned upgrade list. But for now Toslink optical or analogue (when I get round to setting it up again, just moved house) will be sufficient :)
