What's the best processor I can throw in this board?

Okay ladies and gents..

I've had a board for awhile, and I'm replacing it on the horizon, but I already have 8 gigs of Ram in it, and it's still chugging fine.

Current processor in the board is in my sig.

I've done plenty of Google searching, and I'm assuming since it's an older board not much info is available nowadays, I couldn't even locate it.

The board itself is a foxconn amd board. (which is obvious by the processor in it)

It has a sticker near the processor that says it accepts am2+, though dont most am2+ boards accept am3 also?

Here is the model off the board, again I couldn't locate any info on it.. Foxconn - mpbf 1417290 15

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Figure if I can throw a quad core in this for pretty cheap I will, then when I upgrade which will take a bit since I'm piecing everything out, can give this to my nephew.

i think that mobo is discontinued and, alas for you, BIOS updates are no longer being developed. i doubt you will get a phenomII to work on it, but you might get an AthlonII on it. which though, i do not know

Yeah, I think you should just get a new board, if you want to keep the same memory you have you may need a board that supports DDR2 (guessing that you have DDR2).

Yes board is ddr2 pc2-6400

I'm at work so i'll grab a picture this weekend (tuesday/wednesday) for me Mayhem

On a side note, this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103471 wouldnt work in the board? The board specifies it is am2+ socket, as is the processor.

you said that it was AM2+, so i already knew that you had DDR2

Aye, was just clarifying.

I know a new mobo would be best.. The point really is to max this one out before I give it away months from now as a gift.

My new build will be intel, so I'm not looking to keep any of the hard ware on this board. For myself anyways.

**however, if anyone can help me find a relatively cheap AM3 motherboard that still takes ddr2 ram i would not be completey opposed.

40-50$ for a new mobo if i had to.

I'm seeing lots of am2+ quad cores on ebay for dirt cheap though.

That "should" work on the current board with out issue, am2+ 95 watt

****UPDATE**** I do in fact have the A7GM-S ****UPDATE****

Then i did some searching, and this appears to be a dead ringer for the board:

What I've read says AM2+ with bios upgraded to support am3 have trouble with the black edition so the first one is "according to what i read" the smarter choice.

Update, once I got home and verified I had the motherboard I thought i did.. I downloaded and successfully updated the bios to the newest version on the foxconn website which i already linked earlier, nest version being 799F1P15, 100% verified by checking the bios version inside of the bios.

So all of that being said, now that i For sure have am3 support, let's get this thread rolling again : )
