What Z77 to choose?

Hello!

I am going to get a Z77 computer with a GTX 680 from Gainward (Phantom).

I can't decide between G1 Sniper or Asus ROG boards?

I love the features that comes with the ROG boards. Don't know much about the features on the G1 boards. Should I wait for Asus to release more of their motherboards?

What do you guys think?

They are all nice boards. The G1 MB is very expencive and i wouldnt get that one if i was planing on single gpu usage. There isnt any z77 Asus ROG extreme out yet, so are you thinking about the maximus gene? That one is m-atx and the G1 is E-atx and theres sutch a massive prize difference. You cant really compare those two, but if you got more than enough money then i would get the G1 if you like the green layout.

I personally think the UD5H is the best looking Z77 MB. Sabertooth/pro/deluxe is also nice.

Any special reason you have chosen that cpu cooler? If it was me i would swop the cpu cooler to a Nh-D14/Havik140.

Heres a few other things i would change.

Psu: Corsair AX750/850

HDD: WD black/spinpoint F3

Ram: get some low profile mushkin/corsair/kingston

CPU: Wait for IB 3570k ? its launched in the end of this month.

Why should I change the ram? It seems good. Or a Corsair Dominator or Kingston T1?

I heard that Asus will release a extreme board soon. Should I wait for it? Is it better than the G1? I like the color scheme of green and black. (Going to paint the noctua).

Is the performance and feature wise big between the boards? For example compare G1 and Extreme on a Z68 platform.

Isn't a 650W psu enough for the system? Didn't knew it was that power hungry.

Asus will most likely launch a z77 extreme really soon. Is there a reason besides the looks you want a G1 or Asus extreme MB? Because, Id rather find a cheaper motherboard and spend the saved money on a better psu and better hdd/SSD. Its just my honest opinion, you do what you feal is right.

The reason i recomended you to get low profile ram is that you wont get any trouble with the cpu coolers.The cpu cooler you have chosen is a low profile cooler and it is best suited for HTPC's/small cases.

Thanks! I have some overclocking in mind as they are pretty much unbeatable in the area. The G1 because of all its great hardware. Dual killer onboard, the soundcard and same with Asus Extreme. And the NICS. Gigabytes Bigfoot NICS. And Gigabyte who had Zero bios bugs or bugs at all on the Z68 and 2011 platform. And I have always had a good feel with Asus ROG boards. But I am leaning more over on the Gigabyte.

I don't have any plans by doing SLI of some sort. But in a Three years time, I might. That's anyway very unlikely to happen.

Going to do gaming and all kinds of stuff on my rig with this board.

Should I do DH14 or should I go with a H80 or something like that?

I definantley have some overclocking in mind. Might be more when times fly.

If your more into Overclocking and Benching some high scores then Asus RoG is the way to go imo.

If your into tearing shreds out of people online in some high end gaming then I'd go with the G1 Sniper !

If you are going to be doing serious overclocking but don't want to worry about custom watercooling then see if you can get yourself an H100. It will outperform the aircoolers at higher loads.

NZXT Havik 140, Noctua NH-D14, Phanteks or Silverarrow is the aircoolers i would recomend for you if you plan to overclock your cpu. Vengeance low profile ram is nice and you wouldnt get any issue with the cpu heatsinks/fans with that. I havent used the H80, but i have used the H70 one year. Id rather get a good aircooler or make custom watercooling instead of these locked water cooling solutions.

You know, if you only have some oc in mind, you can reach very high/equal oc on a mid range motherboard because the phase power is many times the same. Good example is the UD5H 160£ and the G1 280£ and they both got 12 phase power for the cpu.

The extreme boards are ment for experienced overclockers that push everything to the limits with watercooling, liquid nitrogen or other extreme cooling methods. In bios you got tonns of more options on these boards, and i bet you, like me, dont know what half of them are for. It is very advanced. So yeah, im basicly trying to save you some money, but if you love either board then just get it.

And the sound is good on almost any motherboard. If you want better then get a dediacted soundcrad instead.........

Hmm, I'll consider those aircoolers and RAM. I am more or less a speed freak. I might have forgotten that I will do some pretty serious overclocking by the time in a full customized waterloop included motherboard, gpu, ram (soo unessesary), cpu and might make a custom waterblock for HDD and SSD for the "lulz". And I have read some reviews that says the onboard audio on this is incredibly good compared to realtek.

I know what a lot of the advanced bios setting are and do. But thanks for advice on the mobos. Didn't knew all of the phases though.

Thanks for the tip! Atm, I do not have any money for a H100. I will do some serious overclocking, but that will be in a custom watercooling loop, everything watercooled and everything overclocked.

Both the RoG and G1 Sniper overclocks the same and the G1 Sniper do actually get better bench scores than the RoG. I will do serious overclocking with the time and a fully customized watercooling loop with every thing wc'ed.
