hey guys,

so i am a new memeber of the overclock3d family. Hey ;-)

I just bought an i7 920 system... well i ordred the parts they still have to arrive at my house :D.

And i have a problem where i need you guys help with. I need to buy a new graphic card and my budget is pritty low. I also want (considering) to buy 3 screens for the eyefinity experience.

So i was thinking about buying the 5770 its around 160€ but i dont know if i can play it maxed out in bfbc2 res: 1680x1050. and maby after a year i can put it in crossfire...or is it smarter to buy a older card 2x and put it in crossfire?

i hope that i didnt make it to confusing and hope that some one can give me some tips :)!

btw dont be to hard on me this is my first time i posted somting in my life !!

some info about me to get to know me:

Where am i from : Netherlands

Age : got 18 2 weeks ago

Name : Rik

Male or female : Male ofc XD

a 5770 wont handle eyfinity and max settings with BFBC2

so ither up your budget or get maybe 2 4890's but using older gen cards u wil lose eyfinity

so if your thinking of getting older cards then scrap eyefinity and the screens and get something like a 5870

Most games won't play at eyefinity resolutions TBH. Even mine with quadfire OCed to 900MHz cores will only just run crysis at a playable frame rate at max details 5760*1200 and no aa.

I would spend the cash on a faster card at the start and not the screens. If you put a lot of the screen budget to graphics chips, it should stretch to a 5850 or 5870.

Thank you for your reply. I am pretty new to the ati line.

Can you tell me with what nvidia card i can compare the 5850 and the 5870.

-thanks- :)

I got my 5970s for £500 apiece, which is only about £50 more than the 480s. The smart money goes for the 5870 though, as you can always xfire later when funds allow.

unless you can get 2 5770's straight away then i wouldent get a 5770,5870 IMO

or a GTX 470

Have you ever seen a single 5770 go? I was quite amazed with mine.

One of those for now will be enough. Then save for the second. Whilst I do echo what people are saying get a 5870 I also realise that it's stupid money when compared to a 5770. Sure the 5770 won't hold its own for as long into the future given that it's a good 'right now' sort of card but it's more than good enough for the interim.

It's very easy to get caught up in a world of figures and stats but real world performance speaks volumes.

Oh, and driving with a camera taped to your head is very difficult.

To be fair, you can get the 480 for a touch over £380 now. Not saying I would though.

Well i am still not sure what to do.

i gues 3 screens issent in my budget right now. Can i have 2 screens on a ati 5000 card and when i game only 1 screen is in game and i can use the other one for msn messenger or just browsing?

and the idea of going for a good card such as the 5870 issent in my budget eather. The 5850 is like 100€ cheaper is it also a good card and can i max out battlefield bc2 with the 5850?

Three screens will cost you because one needs to have a displayport. PLEASE remember that. You can't just use a £4 cable to convert one either you need a box and it will cost you £90+. Monitors with a displayport are not cheap, thus Eyefinity is a bit of a catch 22.

As for the 5850? Don't underestimate it. It's a bit of an animal really. It won't perform as well as crossfired 5770s (I know this as fact as a friend of mine and I went head on in benchmarks) but it should have more than enough kick for BC2.

If it's still possible (due to having the correct motherboard) I would still take crossfired 5770s, but the 5850 would be my next choice.

a gtx 465 beats a 5870 when OC so as long as you get the gainward GOOD edition or some other,it will beat a 5870 with some lower AA and just under it when full settings are applyd

at lower res mind 1920*1080

It wont do it day to day fella, that was raping the cards ass and I know 100% it wont do it without special cooling. NONE of the stock coolers are good enough to sustain that card at high clocks in a normal running situation. take it as advice from someone thats played with all of cards in question ;)

That card is far from a 5870 beater fella. Your starting to sound like a fanboy :D

oryt i just thought they used stock cooling with auto fan (73% fan in the review)

LMOA i am not a fanboy in the slightest.

in that case ither a 5850 or 2 5770's
