What to buy next?

im stuck for what to upgrade next....

my cpu is still fucked, so a new one of those may be smart. dunno whether to pick up a cheapo venice, or i heard bournes X2 is for sale........dunno if its in my price range tho. i quite fancy that.

or i could put my money towards the htpc i was thinking of building. basically gonna use an old celly 700mhz with a freeview tv card. might be nice for bling factor in the room.

or i could save more more more money and get a 7800gt. would be nice, but will prob be wasted on my current fucked cpu?

or a new case, was thinking lian li pc-7/pc60b.

a TFT monitor......

or i could blow it on beer, which is prob what wil happen if dont spend some of it soon :)

thoughts guys? this will prob be for the next couple of months
 
I think a new vid card should definately be on the docket mate... Along with a cpu following close behind.
 
Yeah I agree mate a 7800GT then a new CPU. Then a new TFT :)

You play games more than anything else really doncha? Think how much of a difference that'll make :D

As long as you have the CPU stable(ish) for the moment thenI reckon that GT is where its at. £225 for a BFG 7800GT OC :)
 
Why replace a perfectly good, working GFX card when his CPU is -barely- stable? I say get a 3200 venice...
 
I'm gonna say CPU.

I personally wouldnt spend anything on my rig unless it was stable.

I'd also see if you can borrow a friends CPU to test before buying a CPU regardless of how certain you are that it is the culprit.
 
Thing is as well: The CPU's memory controller on the Winnie is very picky. The fact that your running GEIL doesn't help. Pop round to mine with your PC and you can borrow my OCZ when I get my new 2GB modules ;)

No really: you could borrow the OCZ Plat Rev 2 if you pay shipping there and back :)
 
yeah i would fix up the cpu first thats should be your first prioritie, i wouldnt bother really replacing a 6600gt at the moment there still powerful cards :)
 
the prob with cpu is the mem controller is fucked. no ram works (tried 3 sets) although it was all cheap stuff. ill take up your offer on the ocz mate just in case but i think cpu may be the best bet here.

suppose tis best just to make sure just before you shell out for a new proccy

if it turns out its fine with that ram..then i suggest some new modules :p

if you could you should stretch and get a 3700+ sandiego or something :)
 
I don't think there's any need for Dave to do that mate: a 3200Venice E6 would be good :)

Dave if they work I'll swap my OCZ Plat Rev 2 for you GEIL + £70 or something? :)

Enough for 22 cases of carlsberg, or in lamens terms..... 528 cans !!! always worth bearing in mind...... ;)
