What PSU's are recommended within this forum?

I was wondering if I could have some of your views on what are currently the best PSU's available, preferably platinum spec?

I am putting my system in a new case, and hopefully will be getting a couple of new GPU's this year once AMD release the 390k or whatever their top card will be. Or Nvidia. My main hope is to have two cards that comfortably play 4k with high settings and decent minimal frame rates.

But I want a PSU, and the various PSU calculators state more than I expected. And more than I was advised previous. With 1000w not being uncommon for the proposed system below. Some of it I have, basically moving what I have out of a TJ08B-E. Next is a new PSU.

4770K.
Asus Gene VI.
16gb of memory, 4x4gb.
2x of AMD's 390X in crossfire when released (I doubt 290X in CF will do 4K?).
1 256gb 840 Pro SSD.
1 512gb MX100 SSD.
1 to 4 HGST 7200rpm 4tb drives (all eventually going in server/nas, may change to WD if recommended).
1 BluRay optic read/write drive.
3 140mm case fans.
8 120mm radiator fans for push/pull.
1 or 2 D5 WC pumps or a Bay res/pump combo, thinking EK pump top with 140/170 res?
2 240mm Monsta rads? Not sure on radiator choices yet, would like 280mm maybe, or a 360 in top.
CPU and GPU waterblocks n backplates all preferably the same manufacturer.
A 1m or 2m LED strip.
Not sure what model and wattage of power supply yet?

The best PSU would have to be the Corsair AX1500i probably overkill but if you want the best it's the way to go
 
Basically, quality PSUs that I know of and I'm happy to be corrected here...

Corsair (AX and HX are platinum, if I'm not mistaken)

I wouldn't really put XFX in there i would replace that in no order

Aren't most XFX units rebranded Seasonic PSUs? But I do guess if something does go wrong XFX customer support is wank.

Edit; The Black, Core and XXX series seem to be Seasonic rebrands.

The opposite could be said for Corsair too. Excellent customer support but not entirely amazing OEM's over the entire range, great at their respective price points I suppose.

Right now I would be tempted by EVGA given all of their larger units are Superflower built and don't come with the silly childish LED connectors.

The HXi's and the AXI's were faffing epic units - the AX1500i was world leading

You can't group entire families of Corsair stuff together. RM450/550/650 are built by different OEM's to the RM750/850, the same goes for AXi. Nearly all of the recent stuff has been CWT though which brings mixed thoughts around the interwebs, they aren't as well liked as Seasonic to say the least. Most importantly though they are all built to Corsairs spec and come with a Corsair warranty ;)

Corsair actually sacked off Seasonic because they kept putting all of their innovations in the Seasonic units - Corsair was carrying them for quite a while in a lot of respects.

The CWT units from my testing are epic. The RM's are all about price, I think the next 'red' range will be digital too like the AX1500i
 
To be honest I was originally thinking of either an EVGA G2 850w or Seasonic 860w Platinum, but by the time I added watercooling to the PSU calcuator, plus fans it was recommending 1000w.

1000w is what I am seeing on many custom prebuilds too with regard to two 290X in crossfire.

But a 1200w PSU is only costing a little more in most cases, and in some reviews they are even more efficient, the EVGA and Seasonic Platinum 1200w models look great in the reviews, yet all I would save is the price of a takeaway by buying a 1000w unit.

I would think at the efficiencies of Platinum PSU's you are not spending more to run a 1200w PSU over 1000w, as they are over 91% efficient in the same range of wattage anyway.

I am after the most efficient at low as well as high, but also quiet too. My new Phanteks Enthoo Mini XL case is awaiting me moving my components over from the old case.

I think the brand will be EVGA or Seasonic, just need to decide on what wattage for the proposed system in my 1st post. 850w, 1000w or 1200w?
 
If you want to go high end I'd say corsair AX1200i or AX1500i.
The HX1000i could be a contender though :) I currently have one and it's never skipped a beat.
 
I did start using the cables that come with the PSU which are low profile type cables but then I got some braided cables from Cablemod.

To me, the PCI-E cables, you almost need a wrench to un-plugg them from the graphics card lol... damn they are secured in there.

How are those cable mod cables working out for you?...
