What Lian Li did I buy?

Alright lads,

I was toying with the idea of a new build and saw this lian li case and bought it. Without really thinking. Judging by the dimensions I believe it is a pc-75? I don't think I got a particularly good price for it but meh...

My new build hinges on a few things, the release of the r600 and DFI LANParty UT ICFX3200-T2R RD600 and the price drop in quad core (i'll run the e6600 till then) and my willingness to part with my money!

u think you will be able to polish those scratchs out.

That was the plan... If I can't I might get the electric polisher out and buff that s.o.b to a mirror finish! Or, another option was to source a spare front from somewhere.

Is it a pc-75?

Looks like a PC-75 to me, but it has an interesting front panel switch design and the ability for 3 small fans to be mounted on the i/o plane which I don't remember mine having. But the internals and front for the most part look identicle to the PC-75 AFIK.

looks like it is, here's a pic of a pc-75

Cheers nathan - repped.

Frag - I'd rep you if I could lol - might be old, who knows...

What you think of the price? Too much? rrp here is like £175. Well, it's mine now lol. Better start looking for a pa120.3

u can just take the plastic off on the front panel if it serves me right, and an electric buffer should work nicely, or the cheap sand paper way starting from 1000 to microgrit.

I most certainly am - you did this aaaages ago lol

Edit: Frag, you drilled the rivets out to work on the top, did you re-rivet it back on? Or small bolts or something?

Drilled out the rivets and then used matched metal screws to reattach it so that I could take it back off in the future to mess with it, etc.

to get those scratches out you want one of those nylon finishing pads and just do the whole front in the same direction as the original brushing. Ill see if i have any about and post a pic so you know what i'm on about. then go over it once the scratches are out with some micro paper or an abrasive like Tcut

Edit: hang on, is that even brushed steel?

Tis aluminum... Why? Is the method you describe for steel?

It's a PC75 - if it has a window. Check my work log for some internals and also pics of putting a 360 rad on the top inside it

I want this rig to be as silent as possible yet still deliver decent temps with an OC... I'm stuck at 3.33 but hopefully the new mobo will sort that, failing that i'm getting the quad in q2 anyhow.

I hear putting the rad on the bottom gives better performance. Is this true, if so why?

What fans can anyone recommend bearing in mind I want near silence and performance lol (the two just don't go together do they lol)

Putting the rad on the bottom of the case allows you to get a fresh intake airflow from underneath the case and have the air pushed in to the case and out the exhaust areas, works really well if you add 1 or 2 120mm exhaust fans on the top.

When you mount the rad on the top of the case you have 2 options, blow in to case or out of case. Blowing in to case gives you colder ambient air passing by the rads fins and gives better overall loop temps but screws the air circulation inside the case and creates some nasty dust problems. Blowing out of the case means ur blowing the hot air from inside the case through the rad making the radiator less effective but acts as a good means of case exhaust. I went with the air blowing in to the case for my build.

Aaaaah. Now I know. Cheers for the knowledge! May well do this. Will decide when I get the case and parts together. At this rate nothing will be happening until March anyway. I got the reddies, it's just the damn technology isn't released yet.

Cheers, I was aware of this bit though. I have my current rad top mounted pulling air into the case - the dust thing is a nightmare! I'm tempted to switch the fans around (sucking the hot air through rad and out of case) to see what effect this has on my temps.

I need some advice, for a change!

Case arrived... Not that impressed tbh. Doesn't have a window - but thats cool as I had an idea...

Seems well old and dirty. I'm stuck with it now so how do I clean this sucker up?

Torn between 2 finishes. Somehow get the scratches out and keep the brushed alu look (if possible)

Or polish the fook out of it to get rid of the scratched thus creating a mirror-ish finish...

Either way, how do I do it???

I'd like to use a power tool if poss as the prospects of hand sanding this doesn't appeal.

Cheers
