What Do You Think Of This Upgrade?

I currently have the following:

- Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-9

- AMD Opteron 165 @ 2.7GHz

- 2 x 1GB Geil Value RAM

- EVGA 8800GTX

I am beginning to find this system slow, especially in games such as UT3 and Crysis where my graphics card should really shine. I am thinking of keeping the same graphics card and upgrading to the following:

- Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe

- AMD X2 6000+

- 2 x 1GB Corsair XMS2 PC2-6400

Now before you guys comment, you should bare the following in mind:

- I do not plan to do a full upgrade until the end of 2009

- I have a budget of under £200

- I will not be adding or replacing my graphics card until the end of 2009

- I will not be upgrading my CPU to any AM2+ CPU

For some reason I favour AMD, but I could be swayed by other recommendations...

I don't really see the value in that upgrade at all actually, you're not going to see an improvement with those new parts. If you want a speed boost in games then get a Core2Duo, a half decent Intel based board and some cheap but quick DDR2

Which Intel CPU and Motherboard would you recommend?

Which aint much good as he needs CPU, Mobo and ram out of that £200.

Id go for an E7200, IP35 or equivalent and 2GB crucial balistix PC5300, then oc the lot. 3.6ghz cpu and 1000mhz on the ram are perfectly obtainable on that setup.

The IP35-E would be my choice on what your looking to spend. Tis a solid board with little to separate it from its older brothers.

Second choice would be the DFI Blood Iron. Reports indicate it's another top board for the price, which is a tad more than the IP35-E.

There are various cheap Asus and Gigabyte options to but, personal preference, id take either of the above two over them.

I was thinking of one of the Asus motherboards, but wasn't sure which one...

I have the P5K-e which is a awesome board and a good overclocker. But any P35 board would do.

After looking around for the best deals:

The total order comes to £206.75 and that is with shopping around for the parts.

Now I just want to confirm a few things:

- I should be able to overclock CPU to 3.5Ghz

- I should be able to overclock RAM to 1000Mhz (someone said that on another forum)

- ASUS mentions Crossfire and ATI a lot in their product description. I have an 8800GTX so this will not make a difference right?

You can never guarantee anything with overclocking etc but 3.3GHz+ should be achievable with decent cooling and the RAM depends on your skill, patience and good chips

No, it just means it can do Crossfire
