What...desk should I get?

Honestly Im trying to find a decent budgetish L shaped desk and I wanted to see if people in here had a recommendation. I want to get something I can get genuine "Hey this didn't follow apart on me" information from the community.

Make your own.

Get a nice pine/oak board and cut it to the exact shape you want. That way it will fit perfectly in your corner. Legs can be bought extremely cheap if you are on an absolute budget from Ikea.

These cost just £2.50 each and are 70cm high.

I just made a painting desk in my spare room. its 120cmx60 and with those legs. It cost me a total of about £25.

I will now vinyl wrap it in a white wrap to help with the natural daylight I have set up.

I don't have a desk suggestion but get a monitor arm if you haven't already - it gives quite a bit of desk real estate and also makes cleaning the desk easier.

Be cautious with Ikea since many of their desks are cardboard filled fiberboard. Some of the desks are MDF, and a couple are hardwood.

For instance I've got an MDF Klimpen, which I wouldn't recommend since the paint isn't durable, and if the paint is damaged it sucks moisture like a sponge. It took two months worth of morning coffees to work through the paint. :P

The cardboard filled stuff is a bit of a mixed bag, they're cheap and light but can't support a clamp of a monitor stand (at least without reinforcing with support boards) and almost all such Ikea furniture I've owned have became loose since the screws and fittings can't bear much lateral force.

Hardwood should be mostly fine.

Their desks are pretty solid. Its where I bought my top from. I bought one pine for the hobby desk, and one oak for my pc desk.

Do they even have a single desk with their honeycomb cardboard designs? Never seen one tbh. Their shelves are like that though for sure.

The whole OC3D office is the cardboard desks, look after them and they are fine. Ive got the very dark brown/black and the few times Ive scratched it Ive used a perm marker to touch it in. I run REALLY big mousemats everywhere too - helps stop them getting wrecked

^ this. I have the same tops and do the same thing with mine. My keyboard and mouse both sit on a Corsair mat. I think a few coats of poly would make them much more durable though, wish I would have done that before I set everything up.

Yes, like the Klimpen I mentioned. But that has a pretty poor quality paint, much worse than the lamination in cardboard tables.

But I'm pretty rough on my equipment. :D Anyhow the honeycomb tables really shouldn't be used with monitor arms, which makes it a dealbreaker for me, as I think monitor arms are the best thing since sliced bread. Well you can use a monitor arm if you sandwich some support boards on both sides of the table.

And the fact that my old honeycomb table become loose over time, I think the fasteners were able to move about a bit since there isn't much support around them. And before anyone says, yes I did re-tighten them.

But, they're affordable for a reason. Though that also makes them disposable if you need another table.

Yeah I have had a 40kg+ PC up on one of those honey comb cardboard desks. They are fine, so long as you don't puncture them with something sharp. Plenty of lateral strength.

I have a pair of Ikea Malm desks with a pull-out section making them L shaped, they are pretty tough and I even now have my HOTAS stick and throttle bolted through them for hefty Elite: Dangerous sessions. Not great as a corner desk because of the difference in heights, but very versatile.

This is an old picture of my set up, I've changed pretty much all of it now but my desk is a complete mess right now!

My "desk" is Ikea Linnmon black-brown table tops 120x60 and 100x60 arranged in an L and fixed together beneath, with Ikea Adils legs.
Also have a monitor stand made from Ikea Jarpen shelf in matching colour with Capita 8cm legs.

I have seen people complaining about the wider Linnmon sagging over time but can't say it's anything I've personally noticed (and probably wouldn't get with the monitor stand distributing the weight over a wider area)

Judging by TTL's post I think we possibly have the same ones (I've touched mine up with marker pen too  ) and I'm also using a large OCUK deskmat to protect beneath the kb+m
