What Case?

Hi there guys,

I am planning my next build for sometime in the next 6 months.

None of the parts are finalised yet but it will be high end e.g i7 950 , gtx 570/580 (maybe SLI). anyway you get the point.

But the thing I really can decide on is the case, for a long time I was looking at the Corsair 800d, I know that Tom say (quite rightly) that it is a "hot box" and I was thinking of just replacing all of the existing fans and putting 3 more 120mm up at the top, but I'm just not sure whether that would keep these cards cool. But I cant find a case that has the features I really want in a case.

For example, the 800d has a great cable management system, hot swappable hard drives. And one more thing, I hate dust!!! so ideally, the case would have 120mm fans so that I can stick dust filters on them.

Any help is much appreciated guys, thanks.

Only use the 800D if ur gona do watercooling. There are much nicer cases than the 800D for the price its at. Take a look at lianli! you can never go wrong with 1 of those. Silverstone makes the FT02 which is sweet, and Coolermaster has the ATCS 840. Try looking around because there is alot!

If your Mobo is gonna be extended ATX your choices are severely limited vs. ATX.

The corsair 800D is an outstanding case but you will need to either go water cooling or do some modding to the case to keep from going nuclear. Main mod I would recommend is on the side panel where the fan is for the HDD cooler is make some holes there so the fan can pull sufficient out side air flow to help cool the drives and force more hot air behind the Mobo and out the side rear exhaust vents.

Just stay away from the NZXT Phantom...it looks like a mathematical algebra problem imploded.

The NZXT Phantom looks pretty sweet in my opinion and it does have a lot of great features.

800D is only good for water cooling.

So I'm assuming from the 800D you want a big case with lots of room to work with, good cable management. Also at or below the 800D price point.

*Silverstone FT02

*Cooler Master Cosmo S

*HAF X (Love or hate looks, but it supports 4 way SLI

)

*NZXT Phantom (Love or hate looks)

*Lian Li A70F or A71F

*Lian Li Armorsuit PC-P50

*Lancool K62

*CoolerMaster ATCS 840

EDIT: Most of the cases above come with dust filters

Bitfenix Colossus if you are into different. If you are planning on running any kind of high end SLI then you will need the space it offers to keep things cool.

I'm pretty certain it also includes filters as the Survivor does, and they offer a few flavours of it now, one with a window in the side

The Temjin 7 is also supposed to be a great case if that's the kind of look you are aiming at.

Problem with e TJ07 is that you need to work for a clean build since it doesn't have all that many cable management holes, but it does have a removable motherboard tray, which makes building it that much easier.

I've got a TJ07 and an FT02. I prefer the FT02. It has 3 x 180mm filtered intake fans and hot swappable drive bays (although only one comes with the wiring connector). It does fit SLI but you have to watch for a couple of things. One is the depth of the optical drive and clearance to the second SLI card. Second is the length of the graphics card and clearance to the 180mm fans in the bottom of the case. Not sure about 570/580s but my 460s are ok. Cable management can be a bit tricky but doable. Heres mine;

With a bit of modding and some care the TJ07 is THE best case for watercooling and THE sexyest one too. imho

. Zeals has got a good list going. Id like to add the Lian Li PC-B25F because it is a sleek version of the P50. and the V1020
