Yes! Built my pc last night - the zalman was a bit of a b1tch but hey, 3 hours not bad for a newbs first build...after installing windows etc. in the early hours of the morning checked temperatures afraid that i

ed the AS5 paste up with the complications of the zalman installation - they were 35 degrees after installing everything. I just need to wire the thermal module up :p

i cant get the asus update in windows to download the bios update tho :( ill try again tonight - im at school atm :p

any ideas how to quieten the chassis fans (4 pin molex connection) as there is no way to connect these to the 3 pin (small pins?) to the thermal module on the front?!

Go to asus website and download the BIOS file manually.

Then run the Asus update and update it from the downloaded BIOS file

I'd never update straight from the web

ok, any ideas on the 4 pin molex fans - why would they supply it with 4 pins when the thermal module only accepts fans with the smaller 3 pin variety? there must be a way?

COngrats! Your first build > my first build.

There is probabaly an adapter if your fans came with your thermal reader, if not then I'm pretty sure you can buy one. (Im sure you can, I use 2)

Welcome to the DIY club, most people who want a computer will never know how cheap and easy it is to build one these days... even the headaches are worth it!:D

I`m very supprized the pc component retailers don`t sell these more often and at a better price. There has to be a market for a squirly little plastic thingy with molex 4 pin on one side and 3 pin on the other.

If u do find one, I guarantee u it`ll cost £££s. eBuyer probably has them, as a cable around 5cm long. Again it`ll cost a few little pounds.

Personally I`d remount them myself, strip the molex and fit 3 pin fan things. I have no doubt u got a bag/box of bits somewhere with a few 3 pin fan connectors attached to something. Then it`s black tape for the win - or red tape if u`r XMS.

What size fans are you wanting to run off the 3 pin headers? I wouldn't run anything larger than 80mm off them, and only if necessary. Personally I'd just get a fan controller and let it do the work for you. I'm using a fan controller and I just let it utilise the PWM function; so depending on the case temp, it adjusts accordingly.

well i have 2 x 120mm and my zalman cpu cooler atatched to the cpu fan on the board - yet they all run at full speed- cooler at 2800rpm

You what? Three fans (and 2 of them are 120mm) running off one CPU fan header? It's a sure fire way to burn it out  What, have you daisy chained them all together? Get yourself a fan controller mate imho.

Yeah thats a big no-no. AFAIK most motherboards can provide 0.5a to fan headers (at a push), so slapping two fans on there could be very close to that.

no no no they arent running off the cpu connection. only the cpu fan is, the other 120mm fans are directly connected to the psu.

jsut discovered..i foudn some 4 pin to 3 pin connectors - got the lcd on the front of the case setup with sensors and all, connected the fans up and w00tage it works!
