over the years of fixing peoples computers and messing around with my own and new builds there isnt enough internet space of ammount of problems i have occurred.
the weirdest problem i every had is when i built my new rig.
put my computer together got windows going everything is fine. i install windows updates all the drivers except my gpu driver (asus 6950 2gb card)
when i installed the driver my computer bricked. now your thinking its a dodgy card etc. which i thought it was. after pressing f8 and set the computer to boot in vga format everything worked fine and set my resolution to the native setting of my monitor 1680x1080 then it bricked again, i mean computer unresponisive died. after lots of swear words i wanted to find the problem what was causing it. could it be my dvi cable? dvi port.
so i tested both dvi port to route down the problem so i can go back to my supply and get a new card. both dvi ports new cables created the same problem when the resolution was set to 1680x1080. i had then the hdmi port to test. so off i went down stairs kicked the family off the coronation st and plugged my mortally wounded rig in. the -removed- worked, on high res the same rest and even benchmarked it.
so off i went to scan with my new rig with somewhat fault.. i took my monitor with me for good messure i had a gut feeling telling me to take it with me.
when i got to the repairs and return bit i then proceeded to tell the tech guy what was going on and is it possible to get a replacment card. i then tested it rigged up to a 22inch monitor the same as mine and set the resolution up to 1680x1050. it worked right off the bat, i was like wtf. (card in a differnt rig) then i thought power supply issues. we then tested that and it was all fine. i put my card back in my rig then tested it with the same monitor and what do you know worked fine.
after running back to the car i brought my old monitor in and hooked up thinking have i been hulicinating or something, turned the computer on then bam bricked my system. after 30 mins of trying to work out why my computer was bricking he got a other 6950 card out of the back and put it in my rig. it bricked again. every 6950 and 6970 in differnt rigs at scan my monitor was somehow bricking the computers. we tested it on the 5xx nvidia cars worked fine. in the end i had to buy a new monitor but out of all us and other customers we could not work out why the monitor was bricking on 6900 cards. not even trailing the internets could i find a other person with the same problem. the monitor in question is on a other computer running a 4850 card and not a problem lol.
sorry for the wall text but it was the most bizzar problem i have ever had.
