Weirdest PC problem...

Hi,

Not so interested in a fix here as it doesn't actually bother me, but I just have no idea how this could occur...

My PC connects from the soundcard to a sony micro hifi system. This is a simple phono connection from the output of the soundcard, to a phono input on the hifi.

Now since yesterday, whenever I turn the hifi off, I get a message on my PC saying 'The last device connected through USB was not recognised'

Now, I have absolutely no idea how turning the hifi off could send any signal whatsoever down a phono cable to the computer?
It's not really an issue at all - only pops up in the corner, but just intrigued as to how this could happen.
Cheers

USB drivers for me always do something weird at some point, at which point I re-install them and it usually resolves the problem.

What I don't understand is how they get borked in the first place, unless Windows is installing an update which interferes with their operation.

the Realtek drivers pick up on the connection and disconnection of the jacks, so you can set them up on the fly, mine do it all the time, when taking my headphones in and out

switching the Hi-Fi of, is simply sending a disconnection signal down the phono cables

Well no, the point is, it isn't a USB device at all...
It's only connected through phono, which is basically the same as a 3.5mm jack. It shouldn't be capable of carrying a signal back at all.

Also, nothing at any point is disconnected. Just the system is turned off. There shouldn't be any feedback whatsoever to the computer, and certainly not anything affecting USB.

you know what my bad, i didnt read it properly, i missed the USB bit, cant really help with that

but that's how the drivers work, but that's obviously not the issue here

might be worth just removing the usb hub drivers from device manager and letting windows set them back up again...might be one of them unexplainable windows things

I forgot to mention that those occurrences would usually be caused by non-USB devices - which is why I have no explanation.
