Weird problems here..

Right I received my FX53, my Asus SK8V and my OCZ3500 ECC. Set it all up on air, plugged in the psu and off it went. I thought it was odd that I didnt have to hit the power switch on the pc to get it to work - however because it was working I left it at that. I flashed the bios and shutdown.

I then install the same kit in the GT - and fire it up - it boots, however I have no VGA at all. So I reseat, and do all the obvious things - no VGA, at all. As a last resort I remove everything, take the mobo out of the case and try it back on air. It works fine - back in the GT, it doesnt work, no VGA. What the hell is going on here? There appear to be two issues - firstly, the mobo firing up of its own accord as soon as you plug in the 12v atx - that isnt right. Secondly, how come it fires up on air, but not in the GT? I've been farting around with this all day - I've got a feeling the mobo is faulty, but it will be very hard to prove.

no worries m8, Im sure you bought it from somewhere decent & will have no probs returning it

Defo sounds like the mobo, Id return it on the basis it boots up without pressing power switch, mentioning GT may not be good idea.. maybe just mention that youve had problems with VGA as well...

I think you're right - I'm going to try it back on air once more, and see if it boots without the button, if it does its going back.

The VGA is fine, I've treble checked it. Definitely an issue with the board. Unfortunately.

bad luck returns :(

try that phil mate...its the best way...and rma it

sometimes i wished i was an electronic with the knowledge of hipro...

bad clocker?

accidentally dead-rma-sorted :p :D

A possible update here. I changed the 550w Aerocool for a 510 Deluxe this morning, and it appears to be working. There's a lot I need to do prior to confirming this, but the VGA switches on with the molex from the GT connected - so this is an interesting find if this is the case - the 550w rated psu from Aerocool is not up to the job!

hmmm

ive noticed some funny things like that on my p4c800-e b4 it died

If i had my grfx plugged into the same wire as machII and then plugged the graphics card in the pc would power on! scared the crap outa me! :p

I think it must have something to do with the machII powering up automatically if it detects power comming thru that molex....

btw way guys i got my board back from asus. And its REV 2.0 of the p4c800-e-d. Any one got one of these?

I dont think its this m8, do u have a multimeter? try connecting up the 'dodgy' psu and meassure the V's comming into the grfx and the prommie. Then do the same with the 'good' one see if u notice any differances....

Thats an order private! :D

Yeah I noticed this too and had the same response by the sounds of it.

On AGP 3 cads the first pin is a 3.3v signal pin. If your psu is on and plugged in when that pin makes contact the mobo knows that there is grfx plugged in. Im sure that im not the only one who has done this but if you power on a system without the molex in the grfx to be presented with the 'you must power the graphics card' msg.

Does it do this on air or with the prommie or both?

heres some speculation, perhaps there’s a little spike (depending on ur psu) on the 3.3V rail power upon inserting the card that the prommie then interprets as the machine being powered on. When you boot with the prommie does the grfx fan start spinning? Maybe you have an earthing problem?
